When it comes to selecting a dance school, especially in a community like Ithaca, families are often looking for a place that offers more than just a class schedule. They want a studio that aligns with their values and provides a positive, enriching experience. Armstrong School of Dance provides several compelling reasons why it is a top choice. The most powerful testimonials come from the parents themselves, who describe a studio that is not only "friendly and welcoming" but also a perfect fit for their family's needs. The studio's ability to offer a "great combination of proper technique and fun" is a key selling point, as it ensures children are learning valuable skills while also enjoying the process.
The emphasis on a positive body image and the inclusion of high school students as role models are also significant factors. In a world where young people face many pressures, a studio that fosters a healthy self-image and provides inspiring mentors is invaluable. The fact that the girls think it’s "so cool" to have several instructors, including older students, speaks volumes about the positive culture the school has created. This mentorship model helps build a strong, multi-generational community where students feel supported and encouraged to reach their full potential.
Furthermore, the variety of programs, from summer camps that children "LOVED" to adult classes that provide a "fun and relaxing way to relive my childhood love of dance," demonstrates the school's commitment to serving the entire community. The flexibility of having both children’s and adult classes makes it convenient for working parents to fit dance into their busy lives. The optional year-end recital, which allows students to perform on a prestigious stage like Ithaca College, provides a fantastic goal for students to work toward without the pressure of a mandatory commitment. For anyone in the New York region looking for a dance school that offers a high-quality education in a positive, nurturing, and inclusive environment, Armstrong School of Dance is an excellent and highly recommended choice.

August 06 · Alisa LybbertWhen we moved to Ithaca, we were looking for a studio that was friendly and welcoming, close to our house, offered classes at times of day that fit the schedule of two working parents, introduced different styles of dance, and promoted a positive body image. My daughters joined Armstrong in 2021 in the predance and combo I classes (ages 3 and 5). They have both had a great experience! The classes are a nice combination of proper technique and fun. The girls think “it’s so cool” that each class has several instructors which includes members of the senior dance team - these high school students have been great role models for them. Year-end recital is optional, but the girls have chosen to participate both years. They really enjoyed being on stage at Ithaca College. My older daughter tried a week of dance camp this summer and can’t wait to go back next year. I also started taking the adult tap class, and it’s such a fun and relaxing way to relive my childhood love of dance. Highly recommend!
September 02 · Alison GelsleichterMy middle school aged daughter has been a part of Armstrong School of Dance since kindergarten, and it has been an incredible experience. From a middle schooler, looking back, this dance school creates a supportive environment that, of course, does a terrific job teaching dance skills, but also provides a supportive and empowering space for the dancers to grow as individuals. She continues to enjoy this space that balances an appreciated athletically challenging environment with self growth, responsibility, and teamwork. Love Armstrong School of Dance!
August 16 · Rebecca Morgenstern BrennerHighly recommend! Staff is always courteous and welcoming. In my 26 years of having interaction with the studio we have always had a positive experience. I have 3 children that have been dancing since they were 3 years old. When the studio closed due to Covid I was so pleased with the communication and effort to continue to provide instruction via zoom. It gave my children some normalcy. My daughter graduated this year and she was devastated that she was not going to have her last performance. Karen found a way for them to still perform by thinking outside the box and staying within guidelines. We are so thankful for our dance family!
August 26 · Hilary SchillingKaren and her staff were very professional during this difficult time with the coronavirus and accommodating. They kept their confidence and passion alive providing zoom classes for students and managed to give the kids a year end recital safely staying within the guidelines. I'm impressed with Karen and her staff and completely trust her with educating students and reopening safely.
