Bristol Ballet Introduce
For more than 75 years, Bristol Ballet has been a pillar of the performing arts community in Bristol and the wider region of Southwest Virginia. Established in 1948, this non-profit ballet school and dance company is dedicated to educating students and the general public about dance as an art form. Our mission extends far beyond the studio walls; it is to provide a comprehensive and enriching dance education that instills discipline, artistry, and a lifelong appreciation for classical ballet.
At Bristol Ballet, we believe that true classical ballet training is a rare and precious find. Our curriculum is built on a foundation of sound technique, artistry, and performance quality, preparing students for professional careers and for life. As one devoted parent of a junior company dancer shared, Bristol Ballet offers "true classical ballet training" and is a place where a child can "learn discipline, and make friendships that will last their entire lives." This heartfelt testimony speaks to the core of what we do: we are not just teaching dance; we are shaping character and building a supportive community.
Our commitment to excellence is matched by our dedication to making dance accessible to everyone. We offer a range of programs for all ages and skill levels, from toddlers taking their first steps in a Creative Movement class to adults rediscovering their love for the art form. We are proud to be a place where dancers are challenged to push their boundaries and grow, all within a nurturing and supportive environment. This article will provide a detailed look at the services, features, and values that make Bristol Ballet a cherished institution in Virginia and the premier destination for classical dance education.

This easily accessible location is a significant benefit for families and students traveling from various parts of Bristol and the surrounding communities in both Virginia and Tennessee. The convenience of our location helps to make attending classes and rehearsals a seamless part of a busy schedule.
We are deeply committed to ensuring that our facility is welcoming and accessible to all members of our community. To this end, our studio is equipped with a wheelchair-accessible car park and a wheelchair-accessible entrance. These features are a vital part of our effort to create an inclusive and accommodating environment, ensuring that everyone can participate in and enjoy the art of dance without barriers. Our commitment to accessibility reflects our mission to be a community-focused institution that serves all.
Services Offered
Youth Dance Programs: We offer a structured and progressive dance program for children, beginning with Mommy and Me/Caregiver and Child classes for toddlers (ages 12 months and up), followed by Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet, and Pre-Primary classes. These classes use a developmentally appropriate curriculum to build motor skills and a foundation for dance.
Classical Ballet Training: Our core curriculum is centered on Classical Ballet technique. We offer classes for all levels, from beginners in our Beginner's Programme to those in our Intermediate and Advanced programmes. Students learn proper body posture and execution, with a strong focus on injury prevention.
Pointe and Pre-Pointe: For advanced students, we offer specialized Pointe Ballet and Ballet Pointe Classes that help dancers build the strength and technique required for pointe work.
Pre-Professional Programme: For dedicated and serious students, our pre-professional program provides intensive training, with opportunities to join the Bristol Ballet Company's Trainee, Apprentice, Junior, or Senior Companies. This includes rigorous training, rehearsals, and performance opportunities.
Adult Ballet: We believe it's never too late to dance. We offer Adult Ballet classes that provide a great way to stay in shape, improve flexibility, and learn the grace and discipline of ballet in a friendly and welcoming environment.
Contemporary Dance: In addition to classical training, we offer Contemporary Dance classes for various levels, allowing students to explore a different style of movement and expression.
Summer Camps and Intensives: Our summer programming includes camps for younger students, which often feature a fun theme like Princesses and Pirates, and intensives for more advanced dancers. These programs are open to everyone, not just current students, and provide an excellent way to continue training and grow during the summer months.
Performance Opportunities: As a dance company, we produce major productions each year, including the beloved "The Nutcracker" in December and a student concert in May. These performances give students the chance to showcase their hard work on stage.

What is Worth Choosing
Choosing Bristol Ballet means choosing a commitment to a high-quality dance education with a proven track record. For parents in Virginia, it is a choice to provide your child with more than just a hobby. It is an investment in their physical health, emotional well-being, and personal development. The sentiment that the studio is a place to help your "kid in shape, busy, learn discipline, and make friendships that will last their entire lives," is the ultimate endorsement of our mission.
The distinction of being a non-profit organization also means that our focus is purely on the art and our students, not on profit. We are driven by our passion for dance and our community. Bristol Ballet Reviews
Our daughter has been attending classes here since she was 3 years old. She is a junior Company Dancer starting this year with 11 years of experience. True classical ballet training is hard to find anywhere, and this area is very fortunate to have that here with BB. It's not easy, and it's not cheap (BUT its way cheaper than many other hobbies out there especially for the hours they give you for your money). If you want to keep your kid in shape, busy, learn discipline, and make friendships that will last their entire lives, here is the place to do that!
July 31 · Jody CamperIt was very nice. The building they are now in will need lots of remodeling. Let's make sure they get the support they need.
May 14 · Archie HubbardGreat place for class from beginning to advance.
