DanceWorks Introduce
DanceWorks in Lakeville, Minnesota, is a well-known institution in the Twin Cities dance community, serving dancers of all ages and skill levels. Since its establishment in 1984, the studio has grown from a small space into a large, full-service facility, and it prides itself on creating a personal and fulfilling experience for each family. DanceWorks offers a wide array of programs, from recreational classes for those looking to dance for fun and exercise, to a competitive program for more serious dancers. The studio’s goal is to instill personal confidence, self-esteem, and impeccable technique in its students, helping each one reach their highest potential in the art of dance. Its longevity in the community and its professional teaching staff are key factors that have made it a prominent and enduring presence in the Lakeville area.
While the studio receives praise for its community and the dedication of its instructors, some families have faced challenges with the business model, particularly regarding class registration and recital tickets. The demand for classes is very high, leading to a situation where popular classes fill up quickly, sometimes within hours of registration opening. This can be frustrating for returning families who wish to have their children progress through the curriculum. Similarly, the high demand for recital tickets can mean that parents may not be guaranteed a seat to watch their children perform. Despite these logistical challenges, many long-term families feel a strong sense of community and family with the studio, citing priceless friendships and incredible growth in their children. The studio's dual focus on both recreational and competitive dancers allows it to cater to a broad range of aspirations within the dance world.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I had my daughter enrolled when she turned 3 - her second year I tried enrolling her in the next class up from where she started - including enrolling her in that class over the summer to give her a head start. She did great over the summer and tried to enroll her in the class during the full year and wasn't allowed because it was for 5 yr olds even though the description said pre-k which she was in.. so was forced to enroll in the same class as the previous year for a second year in a row.. which was like putting my daughter in a baby class and unfulfilling - and she wasn't able to join the same kids she was dancing with previously. This year I tried to enroll her in classes again - but I couldn't because they filled within a couple hours of registration being open - not giving any sort of priority to returning students.. which makes it impossible to sign a girl up as a child and progress through classes each year.. I just wanted to put my daughter in class at a young age and have her progress through the classes each year - but apparently you need to be online the minute class registration opens or you won't get a spot in the classes. What a horrible business model and really sad for my kid. My daughter also is involved in gymnastics and other activities and is more prepared than several kids that get put in with no relative experience or past registration.Add to that the change in staff/teaching was significantly worse from year 1 to 2.. kids didn't even hardly dance for 2/3 of the class time and didn't even work on a recital until near the end of the season. The previous year the kids did way more dancing, and had their routines for their recital down before halfway through the season.. they were so much more prepared for the recital.Also.. I wasn't even able to get tickets to my daughters recital because those were sold out too even though its in a huge auditorium.. parents don't even get priority to see their own kids.. pathetic.I won't even try enrolling anymore.. there's no point to it.. I'll take my daughter to a dance studio where they value her and let her continue her dance each year. It's expensive and a lot of the kids enrolled there aren't even happy to be there - their parents are making them go.
August 12 · Nick TrutwinWe have been with this "family" for five years now. Both my girls started with rec classes and made the change to move into the competition classes. The teachers , these kids and the parents are absolutely amazing! The friendship that my girls have with their fellow dancers is priceless! The teachers are outstanding.....not only have I have seen incredible growth within my girls but also with their teammates! Love this family, love this studio!
July 06 · Melissa HubmerMy daughters have been at DanceWorks for over a decade. This studio has provided them with an outstanding skillset in numerous dance styles. The instructors are excellent at building each individual’s creative expression as well as building positive and cohesive teams. Beyond all that my daughters have gained amazing friendships, a solid self-image and ability to strive towards goals with excitement and focus.
