Mind-Builders Creative Art Center Introduce
For residents of the Bronx and surrounding areas of New York, finding a community center that truly invests in the growth and well-being of its members is a treasure. Mind-Builders Creative Arts Center is a cherished institution that has been inspiring youth, families, and the community since 1978. As a women-owned and Black-owned business, it holds a special place in the hearts of many, serving as a beacon of quality arts and education. It's more than just a place to take a class; it is a center dedicated to nurturing self-esteem, building character, and cultivating an appreciation for the diverse cultures that make up the community.
Mind-Builders offers a holistic approach to creative arts education, understanding that a healthy community is vital to a child's healthy development. The center provides a wide range of programs for children, teens, and adults, with classes spanning music, dance, theater, visual arts, and even martial arts. This incredible variety ensures that every member of the family can find an outlet for their creative passions. The welcoming staff and nurturing environment are key to the center's success, creating a space where students feel accepted and encouraged to explore their talents. This commitment to a positive experience is what leads many families to stay with the program for years, watching their children gain not only new skills but also invaluable qualities like courage and self-worth.
The center’s long-standing presence in the community is a testament to its enduring mission and impact. As one reviewer shared, their younger sister attended in the 90s, and when it was time for their own daughters to explore their passion for dance, Mind-Builders was the first place they thought of. They were not disappointed, noting that the school was "still around and newly improved" and that the staff and dancers "accepted my daughters with open arms." This continuity and positive legacy are powerful indicators of the center's dedication and success. The center's reputation for making a tangible difference in students' lives, imparting them with a "take charge attitude" and "self worth," is what makes it a recommended choice for families seeking more than just a class.
It is important to acknowledge that every organization has moments of challenge. One reviewer recounted a negative experience with a specific instructor, which they felt did not align with the center's mission of patience and care. This serves as a reminder that, while an institution's overall programs and staff may be excellent, individual experiences can vary. Mind-Builders, with its long history and strong community ties, has built a reputation for its commitment to providing a supportive environment, offering diverse programs, and inspiring generations of New Yorkers to reach their full potential.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1my younger sister use to go to mind builders in the 90's and when my daughters ages 15 & 11 showed a passion for dance I thought about this school. To my surprise it was still around and newly improved. the process was easy to enroll and the staff and dancers accepted my daughters with open arms. From this program I see a big difference in my girls: courage, self worth, take charge attitudes. my girls cant wait for this new semester to start. I highly recommend mind builders...
August 08 · Dana JenkinsMy son attended "Mind Builders" in the year of 2020. At first, the staff seemed to be very patient, kind, caring, and ready to serve the children's needs. But, when my son was be bullied by another boy in his class and decided to defend himself for the first time, Ms. Desireene took my son by the arm with great force and slightly twisted it. After this incident, Ms. Desireene brought it to my attention with hopes that I would speak to my son about behavior in the classroom. When my son and I left, he apologized and said he was sorry for his behavior, not mentioning the part about the bullying due his level of fear towards Ms. Desireene. It wasn't until the pandemic, when my son was at home with me , did he explain what really happened and why he chose not to say anything. The school itself has great programs and staff members, but as long as Ms. Desireene and Ms. Brittany are the instructor for that one classroom..I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone.
November 13 · Yasmin JohnsonLove the Piano teacher Mr.Perrington! The Guitar and voice teachers are also great! My girls love it! Price is affordable, place is clean and there is scholarship available! Great Community center...the staff is also friendly🥰
February 18 · Kelva BaezA must for anyone who is a Bronx native. With classes for children to adults with financial aid packages and free workshops and the opportunity to volunteer, this is a haven for any and all artists or those interested in music, theater, dance, anything! Newly renovated space, great area of the Bronx, fun atmosphere and a wonderfully caring staff.
September 11 · Claudia GaribMy neice attends the dance school absolutely amazing the teachers work hard with encouraging students to bring forth and express their talents as well as building their confidence. Ms. Joseline, the hip-hop teacher stood out the most to me she really pushes the kids to be the best they can be. We need more programs like this for communities.
