This is particularly appealing to those who value a disciplined and structured approach to learning. The academy has attracted dedicated students and families, with one reviewer noting that they drive "30 min to be able to give our children this opportunity ITS THAT GOOD." The passion of the students and their families is a testament to the studio's past ability to create a fulfilling experience. The new owner's approach has been met with mixed reviews, with some parents raising concerns about communication and changes to the curriculum. However, the studio continues to offer a variety of programs, including those for aspiring professionals who may be interested in a more rigorous training schedule. For potential students and their families, it is worth looking into the new direction of the academy and seeing if the changes align with their personal goals and values. The studio remains committed to providing opportunities for students to grow in their skills and artistry.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1NEW OWNER, RADICAL CHANGES—we were kicked out for voicing our questions and concerns! If you like good, true, beautiful classical ballet, this isn't the studio for you. The new owner has made sweeping changes, is woke-mutilating traditional ballets like the Nutcracker, and appears to have anger, control, and/or ego issues. I have uploaded photos to support this review, so you can verify the following story for yourself.PAST: We were members for 2 years and enjoyed our experience. The yearly Nutcracker followed the classic storyline, had the full Tchaikovsky score, and was wonderfully performed. Giselle was well-done; Peter Pan was more theatrical, but enjoyable. My almost 7yo daughter loved her teachers and TAs and was definitely growing in both skill and love of the beautiful art of classical ballet.SUMMER 2025 CHANGES: New owner/director, Mr. S drastically reworked pricing, time reqs, performances, etc. To advance in ballet, we were reqd to invest 4-6x the time and cost. If we didn’t like this option, we could backwards-enroll our child in a beginner rec class with kids who had never taken ballet (this class also increased 2x in cost/time), but we would not have the option of performing in any shows. NBA stated that scholarships were available—but upon inquiring, I found out these are only available to select staff favorites (see screenshot attached to this review). But perhaps the most telling change of all—Mr. S plans to retell the Nutcracker in a “fresh interpretation” that uses 3 different Claras; a storyline focused on her “self-discovery,” “evolving identity,” “emotional development,” and “coming of age” (words in quotes are taken verbatim from NBA's description). He is also removing Act 2’s joyful tribute to different world cultures and cutting pieces from Tchaikovsky's full score to insert music/narration that bolsters his rewrite. In a nutshell, NBA is no longer performing a classic version of the Nutcracker. Why this change? According to his response to me: (1) because he can and (2) because it removes “racist choreography.” (see attached screenshots). Now, I strongly believe in respect and creative liberty—but his version is nothing more than mutilation of a classic. I would be concerned about similar problems with any future classic ballets that he is in charge of.KICKED OUT FOR VOICING CONCERNS: I sent a few rounds of questions to NBA staff clarifying class and pricing changes which were not clearly communicated, and did evolve over the summer (as admitted to in email). I also respectfully raised our concerns on the increased time/cost and mentioned that we would have to opt-out of unusual interpretations of classic ballets (the studio does allow performance opt-out). I let them know we were feeling stuck and saddened by the changes, and that we were also considering alternatives. Unfortunately, Mr. S responded to me with a lengthy, unprofessional email that included undeserved snarky, bizzare, and egotistical statements that I can only assume were based on highly inaccurate assumptions about me as a person. I have never even met the man. I was told that I am ignorant, need to (re)educate myself, and labeled as a “difficult parent not worth any amount of money”—which he used as a reason to kick our family out of NBA forever, with a promise to smear me to his friends in the ballet world, presumably so we would not be accepted elsewhere. (see the screenshot of my email and the 2 of his response)In checking with another mom, she informed me that she and others had similar concerns about the changes/Mr. S’ character and had also withdrawn their children from his studio. In the end, being “kicked out” of NBA was actually a huge blessing. I have found a much better option for my children, and I beg you to do the same for yours!
August 24 · Laura CarrI have had the privilege of taking my nieces and nephew to North Ballet for four years now. The children have learnt so much from the instructors. The classes help children form strong student friendships and a love for dance. The class structure is very formal, allowing clear boundaries and recognition of what needs to be focused on. LOVE LOVE LOVE... ( we drive 30 min to be able to give our children this opportunity ITS THAT GOOD)...
May 30 · Tuesday RumleyI just finished the adult ballet classes. 6 weeks at a very reasonable rate. The instructor for our classes was Ms.Sylvia. She was very patient with us. I found corrections from her were gentle and I do feel better in my movements for it. I hope they bring back the class. I would very much like to continue.
August 16 · Nicole SchoonoverVery professional yet family friendly. I've never been in a ballet school where the students are treated so well, always with heart. Its a family owned business and you can see and feel the warmth from everyone yet still get the top notch training from respected instructors. Keep up the hard work and thank you.
June 28 · Denise WoldFantastic ballet studio. We shopped around several dance schools for our daughter, and initially started her at a different studio in the area for her first year of dancing, before we found North Ballet Academy. Now she’s in the middle of her 4th year there, and it’s her favorite place to be. The owners and staff are all super professional, helpful, and kind. Not only do the kids have fun there, they also produce really talented dancers.
