July 11 · Melissa MartinezIf you are looking for a place to structure your with good ballet technique, then this is the place for you. The staff, give such a warm bubbly environment. The School of Richmond ballet is an excellent curriculum for future principals and performers. The company is extraordinary!! Truly a work of art
February 23 · Tamia PI am disabled and could not find parking anywhere. I arrived 45 minutes early, driving around multiple parking lots and parking garages, all around downtown before the show started, and another 15 after the show started. I called the phone number that was listed on my ticket to call for help, but it went to the Richmond ballets box office, which was closed. The number on their voicemail rang to the Altria theater box office, NOT Dominion Energy Center box office. I also called the phone number on the Dominion Center google listing, and it ALSO went to the altria theater box office. Why are the only phone numbers available to call going to someone who is not even at the right property?? After i had already missed the first 15 minutes of the show, I stopped in the middle of the street to try to ask the box office lady and man where I was supposed to park. They were extremely unsympathetic and told me to go several streets away to park. Again, I am disabled. I could not walk that far, and if I had, the show would have been HALF over by the time I got back to the box office. They did not have enough handicap spaces anywhere near the venue. This place is horrible and refused to provide a refund. I arrived 45 minutes early and could still not find parking near their venue. Nowhere in the purchase process of the ticket did it say that parking was not available or easy. Nowhere in the purchase process did anything specify WHERE one could find parking. My guess is they are quiet about how BAD parking is because they would never sell tickets if they were honest. But if they were honest, i would have know ahead of time that this was not a handicap friendly venue with plenty of parking, and i could have avoided purchasing the ticket or made an extra effort to arrive 1.5 hours early instead of only 45minutes, since that was not enough. This was the first time I have tried to see a Richmond Ballet Performance and also the first time I have tried to visit the Dominion Energy Center and I can assure you I will not be coming back and I will be making sure everyone I meet hears my opinion of the Dominion Energy Center and the Richmond Ballet.
February 18 · Ashley JOpening night is the night when you truly discover the rough spots in your work, the elusive, subtler flaws that evaded detection in rehearsal, but which will require attention if you are to achieve perfection: because perfection is, of course, always the goal of the artist, whatever their medium; and it occurred to me last night, watching the Richmond Ballet discover the little rough spots in their work as they revealed themselves in the moment of truth under the lights during their magnificent opening performance of this season’s Nutcracker, that we have already passed a threshold into an era in which what the Japanese refer to as “Wabe,” or “evidence of the master’s hand,” or, to put it in distinctly western terms, imperfection, is at an even higher premium than perfection. Perfection is now commonplace, banal, and sure evidence of artificial intelligence: imperfection, on the other hand, and specifically those imperfections inherent to the struggle toward creative perfection, are the epitome of human expression, and reveal the hope at the heart of any artistic endeavor. They are, in a phrase, beautifully human. And so I would like to extend my most profound gratitude to one and all who performed in last nights opening performance of the Richmond Ballet and Richmond Symphony Orchestra’s Nutcracker, and who perhaps discovered their own areas for improvement this season (trust me; only you know what they are . . we witnessed only pure magic), thank you for sharing that experience with us, and for once again reminding us of how wonderful it often is to be human.David VanDevelderadoring fan
December 09 · HeyokaMy daughter has been dancing at the School of Richmond Ballet for 8 years. It's the best place to dance if your child has a strong interest in ballet specifically. The additional classes offered are wonderful as well. The teachers are amazing. The company and entire organization is one of Richmond's greatest treasures. The ballet studio itself is a beautiful piece of architecture, and they recently renovated the first and ground floors. It's conveniently located off the downtown expressway. We love Richmond Ballet.
