Small Steps School of Dance Introduce
In the heart of Scarborough, Maine, a beloved local institution has been helping young dancers take their first steps and grow their passion for over two decades. Small Steps School of Dance, a proud women-owned business, is more than just a place to learn choreography; it’s a nurturing and welcoming community where children and families feel like they belong. Led by the kind, loving, and incredibly patient Miss Betsy, the school is built on the philosophy that dance should be a fun, creative, and stress-free experience that instills a lifelong love for movement and music.
From the moment a toddler takes their first dance class to when a youth dancer hones their skills, Small Steps School of Dance provides a developmentally appropriate and encouraging environment. The focus here is on building confidence and self-esteem, not just technical proficiency. This approach, as described by a long-time parent, is what makes the school so special. It's a place where kids are in "great hands" and where a love for dance and music is a direct result of the positive energy and care from the instructors.
The studio’s commitment to its students is a testament to its enduring success. It's the kind of place where a "once you become a part of Small Steps you really are becoming a part of her awesome family" mentality prevails. This deep sense of community and connection is what keeps families coming back year after year, with many students dancing from childhood through their teenage years, and even returning as alumni to support the next generation at the annual recitals.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My daughter danced with Miss Betsy for 11yrs. I choose her school because I went to high school with her and I remembered how good she was with kids back then. We were not disappointed! She is so kind, loving and patient with the kids and she instilled a love for not only dance for my daughter but also music. We still enjoy going back every year for the recitals because once you become a part of Small Steps you really are becoming a part of her awesome family! We love them all!

August 09 · Bill MimikosMrs. Betsy has a wonderful way with my 2 daughters. My youngest started at just 2 and she was so patient, fun and encouraging. My girls are 4 and 6 now and can't wait to go to her classes every week. I would reccommend Small Steps School of Dance 100% to anyone looking for a wonderful dance school for their young kids!
August 09 · Sarah KhurshudianBoth of my girls attended Small Step from the time they were 3 until they turned 12. Miss Betsy is an amazing teacher. She is so patient and loving to her students. Both girls have wonderful memories of Small Steps and still keep in touch with Miss Betsy.
August 10 · Jen PrintyMs. Betsy is a loving, talented, artistic dancer, choreographer and musical director! Our two girls attended lessons with Ms. Betsy for many years and it’s still a highlight of conversation in their lives to look back on and reminisce. Ms. Betsy offers a program which allows a creative outlet for children in a very low stress environment all while innately building self esteem and confidence. Her loving and caring personality is palpable and magnetic with children and they get the added bonus of having her as their teacher. Highly recommend! There should be 10 stars for a review!
