Smyrna Community Dancers, LLC Introduce
Smyrna Community Dancers, LLC is a prominent fixture in the Smyrna, Georgia arts scene, serving as a comprehensive dance school, company, and dance store all in one. This women-owned business is a hub for dance enthusiasts of all ages and abilities, from toddlers taking their first steps to adults looking to learn a new skill or stay active. The studio’s mission is to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment where dancers can grow, learn, and perform. They offer a diverse curriculum that goes far beyond just one style, incorporating classical ballet, jazz, hip hop, and tap, ensuring that there's a class for everyone. This variety makes it a versatile choice for families in the Atlanta metro area who are looking for a place where their children can explore different forms of movement or focus on a specific discipline.
While the studio has received glowing reviews for its positive and fun atmosphere, it is important for prospective students and their families to be aware of all aspects of the business. One review highlights a serious concern regarding the handling of a bullying situation, leading the reviewer to state they would not recommend the studio. However, another review describes it as "the best dance studio for children I have ever seen" and loves "seeing all the little girls practicing and learning their new routines." These differing perspectives suggest that the experience can vary. It is crucial for families to consider all feedback and engage in open communication with the studio to ensure it is the right fit for their specific needs and values. The studio has publicly stated a commitment to being LGBTQ+ friendly and good for kids, which indicates an intent to create a supportive space for all. The presence of a dance store on-site also adds a layer of convenience, allowing dancers to easily get the supplies they need for class without having to make an extra trip.
The curriculum at Smyrna Community Dancers is designed to cater to a wide range of skill levels and ages. They offer classes for everyone from beginners to those in pre-professional programs. The "Mommy and Me Dance" class is a wonderful entry point for the youngest dancers and their parents, creating a fun, shared experience. For older children, the variety of classes—including ballet, jazz, hip hop, and contemporary—allows them to explore different styles and find what they are most passionate about. The ballet program is particularly strong, with offerings that range from "Beginning Ballet" to "Advanced Ballet," and even specialized classes like "Pointe ballet" and "Pas de deux ballet." The availability of an "Adaptive dance" program is a significant highlight, demonstrating the studio's commitment to inclusivity and ensuring that dance is accessible to all. For adults, the "Adult Tap" class offers a great way to stay fit, learn a new skill, and have fun.
In addition to regular classes, Smyrna Community Dancers has a strong focus on performance and competition. They have a dance company with competitive teams that participate in local and regional shows. This provides a valuable opportunity for dedicated students to showcase their skills, learn teamwork, and gain stage experience. One review from a parent mentioned how much they "enjoy their performances," which speaks to the quality of the routines and the professionalism of the productions. While competitive dancing can be a very rewarding experience, it is important for families to understand the commitments involved. The studio's website notes that team members are expected to be disciplined and passionate, and will participate in a minimum of two competitions and two recitals. This clear expectation helps families make an informed decision about their level of involvement. The studio's track record of awards at competitions like KAR in Atlanta, with numerous "Top First Awards" and "Overall High Point Awards," highlights their success in the competitive dance world. This level of achievement is a testament to the hard work of both the students and the instructors.
The business also offers "Private lessons" and "Master Classes," which provide additional opportunities for students to grow. Private lessons allow for individualized attention and can be tailored to a student's specific goals, whether it's preparing for an audition or working on a particular technique. Master classes, often taught by guest instructors, provide a chance for students to learn from a variety of professionals and be exposed to new styles and techniques. The convenience of on-site services, including the dance store, is a major plus for busy families. The studio is equipped with multiple dance spaces, and its commitment to accessibility is evident with features like wheelchair-accessible parking, entrances, seating, and even restrooms. This attention to detail ensures that the studio is a welcoming and comfortable place for a diverse range of people. The fact that the studio accepts credit cards and debit cards also adds a layer of convenience for customers.

Smyrna Community Dancers, LLC Reviews
I attended this studio for many years but stopped going during my teenage years due to concerns with their handling of bullying. Although the studio has an anti-bullying policy, it was not enforced when a student began bullying both myself and my best friend. My friend eventually left, and despite my efforts to tolerate the situation, I also decided to leave after reporting the issue and seeing no action taken. The studio stated they would take bullying concerns seriously, but in my experience, they did not. Several students have left due to the same individual, and the studio’s size has noticeably decreased. The issue has been further complicated by the lack of accountability from the student’s parent, who refused to address the behavior.Additionally, while i was competing with this studio, this studio removed my name from their records, which has prevented me from accessing my dances. When I reached out to them about this, I received no response.Since leaving, I’ve joined Spirit of Dance, which I highly recommend. They provide a welcoming environment, particularly for teenagers and younger dancers, and the community there is much stronger. Becky Jones Studio is another excellent option, with a long history of competitive success. One final concern I’d like to note: during a past competition, my younger sister had a trophy taken from her by the same student, who acted rudely toward her. Experiences like this reflect poorly on the studio’s environment and culture.Overall, I would not recommend this studio. There are other, more professional and supportive options for young dancers.
August 25 · Lila JordanThis is by far the best dance studio for children I have ever seen! I highly recommend for all the young ladies to come here and learn some cool fun new dance moves. I love seeing all the little girls practicing and learning their new routines. I also, enjoy their performances.
