February 07 · George AntonI REALLY wish I could give this AMAZING Academy ten stars! Before my intellectually delayed 15 year old son had come to TPA he was extremely shy, spent hours on Youtube learning god knows what and did not seem too interested in anything. I was desperate for him to be dedicated to something productive besides girls. So one morning I was watching the news and they were doing a segment on The Performers Academy, immediately I said to myself "i have to go and see if this place is a good fit for my son." Let me tell you, I was blown away during the tour by Ms.Taryn! who's a poet, writer, author as well as co-founder of the Cypher Open Mic poetry & soul and her lists goes on and on. They offered dance lesson, acting classes who are taught by Dr.Powell, sewing classes, snack room, music studio with a real sound booth, art classes and a garden. I only named a few but there are more disciplines they offer. TPA offers a no judgement safe space for teenagers to be their authentic self. They also have something called Truth and proof , every third Saturday of the month so that the students can showcase their talent. Ms. Kathyrn the owner is wonderful and passionate about the arts, she genuinely cares about the students. Well with all that said my shy son performed one of his favorite songs at truth and Proof in front of a room full of people, they showed him so much love that it encouraged him to do it again. He walks around the house singing so that he gets better. I know I wrote a lot but for the amazing transformation they are doing for my son, they deserve to be praised!
