Wilson School of Dance has earned a sterling reputation for its exceptional quality of teaching and its commitment to fostering a truly positive atmosphere. The experience of one family who moved to Charlottesville from Northern Virginia perfectly illustrates this. Coming from a "very strong and competitive studio," they were concerned about finding a suitable replacement. Wilson School of Dance, however, "exceeded all our expectations." Their oldest daughter, who was able to thrive in this environment, not only improved her technique but also saw her love for dance grow, ultimately leading her to continue her journey in college. This speaks directly to the school's ability to cater to serious dancers while maintaining a healthy, encouraging space. Similarly, a 14-year-old who also moved from a competitive Northern Virginia studio found a new home at Wilson, citing the "kindness and compassion" of director Juanita Wilson. This student noted a drastic improvement in their skills and felt that the teachers pushed them while "still treating with love and kindness." This combination of high expectations and compassionate teaching is a rare find and a hallmark of the Wilson School of Dance experience.
The welcoming and nurturing environment is not just for advanced students; it is integral to the experience for all ages. The youngest daughter of the first family mentioned, at just five years old, had a "wonderful experience" and is already "counting down the days until she can go back!" This is a powerful endorsement from a young child, demonstrating that the school makes dance fun and accessible, proving that it is "good for kids." The studio’s mission is to provide excellent instruction in an inspiring atmosphere, and it is clear they succeed on all fronts. This dedication to a well-rounded dance education, which includes not only technique but also a sense of joy and self-esteem, is what makes Wilson School of Dance a true treasure in the Virginia dance community. The fact that many of the teachers are former students themselves is a testament to the lasting positive impact the school has on its pupils, creating a continuous cycle of passion and excellence.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Wilson School of Dance has been an absolute blessing for our family. When we moved to the Charlottesville area from Northern Virginia, we were coming from a very strong and competitive studio and were concerned about finding a high-quality replacement. Wilson exceeded all our expectations.Over her three years at the studio, my oldest daughter thrived. The quality of the teaching and technique is outstanding, but what truly sets Wilson apart is its incredibly positive and nurturing environment. My daughter's love for dance and choreography only grew stronger here, and she is now continuing her dance journey in college. My youngest daughter, who is 5, is following in her big sister's footsteps. She just finished her first year and had such a wonderful experience. She is already counting down the days until she can go back! We're so grateful to have found a new dance family at Wilson.
August 09 · Shab RahnavardI came to Wilson 3 years ago at age 14 after moving from a competitive studio in Northern Virginia I was for 7 years. When I called to express my interest and check out some classes I was immediately greeted with kindness and compassion from Juanita Wilson, the director. She welcomed me with open arms and allowed me to observe and sample classes before making my decision. My mom and I had pretty high expectations coming from a competitive studio but we were pleasantly surprised by the technique level coming from all classes and the teachers. I improved drastically after the first year here. All my teachers pushed me while still treating me with love and kindness and I loved walking into the studio every day. I found a greater passion for dance here that I didn’t have before and I am now attending college for dance this fall on my way to continuing a professional career in dance and choreography. I would not be here without Wilson’s incredible environment and training and I would not be in a position to continue dance forever either. I will forever be grateful that I chose this studio after moving and will absolutely be coming back to visit as long as I can!
August 07 · Kimia RahnavardWe haven't even had a lesson yet and the owner/ director stopped in the middle of our visit to spend one on one time with my daughter, helping her build enough confidence to overcome her fears and anxiety to give dance a try. She loves to dance at home, but both loved and feared the idea of a class. Now she can't wait for her first lesson!
August 23 · Aaron CushingWe moved to the area from Arizona three years ago, coming from a competitive dance school where my daughter began building her foundation in dance. So, we had high expectations when searching for a new studio. From the very beginning, Wilson School of Dance stood out. My initial message was quickly followed by a personal phone call, and after speaking with the owner, office manager, and one of the instructors, I could already tell they genuinely cared about my daughter. That kind of intentional follow-through meant a lot.At first, I assumed Wilson was a small local studio, but I was surprised by how many students are enrolled. Despite the size, they make every family feel seen and valued. That personalized approach is rare and so appreciated. We had the opportunity to try a few different classes to find the right fit, and from day one, the other students welcomed my daughter with open arms. That kindness and sense of community helped her feel at ease in a new place. She now takes several classes each week and has found her people, young dancers who are not only talented, but encouraging and uplifting. My daughter is passionate about becoming a professional dancer, so finding the right environment was important to us. While Wilson offers a wide range of classes for all levels, we were able to place her in classes that continue to challenge and inspire her. Many of the teachers have been with the studio for years, and their experience shines through in both their instruction and the beautiful, expressive choreography showcased in performances. We’ve also discovered performance classes and opportunities, from seasonal showcases to more advanced stage productions, she’s gained exposure and experience that has helped build her love of dance. As a parent, I've also found a sense of community here. I’ve been able to connect with other families who share similar values, which has been such a gift. There’s a spirit of kindness and grace that is genuine and sincere, and is something that feels rooted in a strong, faith-filled foundation.Wilson School of Dance means so much to us. They nurture dancers of all ages and abilities with heart, discipline, and joy. We’re so grateful to have found a place that combines professional training with a true sense of belonging.
May 09 · Kris ByersThis place is a poorly maintained cash grab. Protect your child and choose a rebuttable establishment that has real instructors, rather than untrained minors teaching the classes. The owner communicates poorly and only shows up sporadically. Management is rude and unkind to the children, overall unhelpful and don’t follow their own policies. There’s a reason there are no current positive reviews for this school.
