March 02 · Michelle CookeA little treasure in the city of Corning, NY. Wonderful arts center that offers many classes as well as a beautiful gallery. They are located in 2 gorgeous old buildings and also have a small case of gift items created by the teaching staff that you can purchase.
February 13 · Angela CookeThey offer an assortment of classes, not just visual arts. My son has done the teen experimental art there multiple times and enjoyed it immensely. He also takes a couple different instrument lessons there - piano and violin, and it's convenient as far as location and the selection of teachers is great. We had much better luck going through 171 Cedar Arts for the lessons than music shops fwiw. He has also taken fencing, which seems well done - though not his cup of tea.I've taken a few different painting classes over the years and other art related workshops, and the teachers are very skilled and friendly. Some of the classes have a more loose, free flow structure rather than set lessons, so read the description and understand what you're signing up for. The pottery instructor, Kirk Allen, is excellent. Kate Heimen, with whom I took a weekend workshop with and she also teaches teens and kids, was also an excellent teacher.I do recommend getting a membership, not just to support the arts center, but for the nice discount on classes/workshops - it pays for itself.171 Cedar Arts is an asset to the community.
