Alameda Ballet Academy Introduce
Welcome to the Alameda Ballet Academy, a dedicated institution for classical ballet education located in the scenic city of Alameda, California. Since its founding in 2003 by Artistic Director Abra Rudisill, the academy has been a cornerstone of the Bay Area dance community. With a mission to inspire and educate, the academy provides a professional and nurturing environment where students are taught not only the precision and grace of ballet but also artistry, self-expression, and musicality. The school, and its affiliated performing company, the Alameda Civic Ballet, strive to bring the elegance and discipline of classical ballet to the heart of the local community.
The academy’s approach to dance education is holistic, going beyond the basic steps and routines. The curriculum is designed to enrich the dancer's journey and enhance their artistry through a comprehensive program that includes Pilates, yoga, stretching and strength training, and injury prevention. Students are also exposed to musicality, dance and art history, choreography, and acting, all of which contribute to a well-rounded and deeply artistic education. The academy’s commitment to excellence is reflected in its adherence to traditional ballet school practices, such as designated leotard colors for each level, which fosters a sense of discipline, unity, and progress as dancers advance through the program.
A key highlight of the Alameda Ballet Academy is its strong emphasis on performance. Dance, as an art form, is meant to be shared, and the academy encourages all students to participate in their annual productions, including the beloved holiday tradition of "The Nutcracker" and a joyful Spring Recital. These performances are seen as essential milestones in a dancer's education, cultivating discipline, teamwork, and stage presence. The quality of these productions is a point of pride, with one positive review mentioning how "very pleasantly surprised" they were at the "production quality" and "beautiful" costumes for "The Nutcracker," even when performed at a rented venue. This focus on performance ensures students gain valuable experience and build confidence both on and off the stage.
The Alameda Ballet Academy is conveniently located at 1402 Park St, Alameda, CA 94501, USA. This central location within the city of Alameda makes it easily accessible for families and individuals in the greater East Bay area. The studio is well-situated for a straightforward commute, and its presence contributes to the vibrant arts scene in the local community.
In keeping with its commitment to a welcoming and inclusive environment, the academy offers key accessibility features. The facility provides a wheelchair-accessible entrance, ensuring that all visitors can enter the studio with ease. Additionally, there is a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, which simplifies the process for individuals with mobility needs. These amenities demonstrate the academy’s dedication to making the art of dance available and comfortable for everyone. The academy also accepts credit cards and debit cards, providing convenient payment options for families.

Alameda Ballet Academy Reviews
This review is only for attending a performance:Took kids to Nutcracker, and was very pleasantly surprised at the production quality! Costumes were beautiful. Venue was a rented place in Castro Valley, but the ballet part was most impressive.Ticketing was easy, and quickly fixed an error when 2 sets of tickets were inadvertently purchased. Thanks for the fast fix in customer service!
December 03 · Laura “BehaviorMomma” MatlockI decided to try the summer teen program. That was a mistake. After the first class, I had health issues that did not allow me to attend the classes. Being that I only was able to attend one class, I asked for a refund. I tried to explain, but they were extremely unaccommodating. They said that I should have filled out a form. How the heck was I supposed to fill out a form while in the hospital? I had other issues to worry about. If this was not bad enough, this program was not even as described and mainly consisted of little children and not teens. They started ignoring my emails after I tried to explain my situation. Dance 10 was a lot nicer. These people are extremely greedy and do not care about their students. They just want money.Avoid this studio at all costs.
August 24 · NkechiI wonder if Mora Stone still runs this place. Maybe her kids run it all by now - Wendy, Artie and Cindy. Great folks. Had fun taking dance classes here centuries ago. I remember when classes were held in the upstairs hall/auditorium of Eagles Hall. Norine Xavier (sister of Marnell) gave classes here before they began their own dance studio. They always had annual performances at Kaufman Auditorium and at Alameda County Fair Court of 4 Seasons. Maybe they still do.
December 02 · Anne CroninOur daughter has spent 10 years at Alameda Ballet Academy and is now enrolled in a leading national dance program and pursuing her dreams. At ABA she has learned self confidence, poise, grace and teamwork. Most of all she has learned through her training with Abra that perseverance, hard work and focus pay off. Our daughter tried other dance programs however they lacked the rigor and discipline she wanted.
August 28 · bill schroederJulie Lowe is a fine teacher; her barre is excellent, her combinations a good balance for me of challenges & fun. Very musical.
