Choosing a dance studio is an important decision, and Arthur Murray in Royal Oak offers a compelling set of reasons why it is worth choosing. A key highlight is the incredible value and effectiveness of their structured learning approach. As a satisfied couple mentioned, the combination of private lessons, group classes, and practice parties provides "a lot of bang-for-your-buck." This method ensures that students progress quickly and build genuine confidence, rather than just memorizing a few steps. The ability to learn at a personalized pace with a dedicated instructor while also gaining real-world experience in a social setting is a significant advantage.
Furthermore, the studio's specialization in wedding dance lessons is a major draw for couples in Michigan. As one review beautifully illustrates, the personalized choreography and patient instruction can transform a nervous "first dance" into a treasured, graceful memory. The instructor, Jim, even helped a couple with their "entrance choreography," demonstrating a commitment to going above and beyond to make a couple's special day perfect. The studio understands that a first dance is about more than just steps; it's about a couple's connection and creating a moment that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
Finally, the friendly and supportive community that the studio fosters is a key reason for its success. The instructors are consistently praised for being not only talented but also patient, encouraging, and fun. The fact that students feel comfortable enough to overcome their nervousness and even look forward to "sweaty exercise" speaks volumes about the positive atmosphere. By choosing Arthur Murray, you are not just signing up for a dance class; you are joining a community that will help you build confidence, create lasting memories, and discover the lifelong joy of dance.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My husband and I signed up for wedding dance lessons to prepare for our first dance, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. We had no previous dance experience and were quite nervous, but the instructor, Kristina, worked with us in the one-on-one lessons to develop a dance that complimented our first dance song and suited our skill-level and style perfectly. We had so much fun during the lessons and gradually felt more and more confident and ready to shine on our wedding day. Many of our guests commented on how beautiful and graceful we looked during our first dance and our photographer captured many stunning photos of the dance that we will treasure forever. We are so glad we decided to take dance lessons before our big day, and we highly recommend the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Royal Oak to any other couples!
June 22 · Emily FitzgeraldMy wife and I took lessons at Arthur Murray in April and May to prepare for our wedding at the end of May. It was awesome! We got a consultation and then opted for the 4- session package. You get a lot of bang- for- your- buck each week with a private lesson, group lesson, and the party where you can try a bunch of different dance styles. Our private instructor, Jim, is absolutely amazing. I have to say, prior to this, I had no idea what I was doing when it came to dance. I am really proud with how our first dance turned out. Jim even helped us with our entrance choreography (coming out to Led Zeppelin!). We had a blast every week and would certainly look at future lessons.Highly recommend!
July 08 · Alexander BaylerianI sincerely wish I could give this place 5 stars, but I can’t. Let me start off with the good, because she absolutely deserves it. Korissa, our instructor, was phenomenal. We thoroughly enjoyed her. She is the only reason this place doesn’t get 1 star. Korissa on her own deserves 10 stars. It’s too bad a couple of the other instructors aren’t like her.Now for the bad. I have to imagine this has to be a very toxic place to work. We paid very good money for 9 private lessons so my fiancee and I could have a coordinated dance for our wedding in October. The first few classes were great, and then the 9th class happened. Before we even took the floor, it was apparent that there were multiple private lessons scheduled for the same time, which was perfectly fine with us. But one of the other instructors made the comment before anyone took the floor, “ugh, it’s going to be a battle of the music again.” Everyone with a private lesson has their music that they dance to. If that is such an issue, don’t schedule all of the private lessons at once. So we start our last lesson. We practice our wedding dance that Korissa coordinated for us, and it was great. After that, it was someone else’s turn for their music. Next time our song came on, the same instructor who made the comment earlier said, “ugh, this song again?!” Around the same time, a different instructor grabbed a chair (Korissa puts out a chair on the floor to mark the approximate size of what our dance floor is for our wedding so we don’t go outside of it) and basically threw it off the floor because she was annoyed that it was out there for us. Both of them made us feel like we were a major inconvenience during our final class with them. We were very much looking forward to our last class, but those two other instructors completely ruined our experience with Arthur Murray. My fiancée and I really wanted to continue taking classes there after our wedding for fun date nights until all of that happened. I can say without a doubt, that our last private class turned out to be our last time visiting this place. So if the two instructors who were very unprofessional are reading this, hopefully you can feel better knowing that we won’t be there anymore to be such a major inconvenience for you. I especially won’t go to any other Arthur Murray studios if that’s who they want representing them.As far as Korissa goes, if she ever decides to go anywhere else, I will gladly schedule more classes with her.
August 24 · John BelloliWe took dance lessons for our upcoming wedding in May at Arthur Murray's and it has been one of my favorite parts of wedding planning! They put together choreography that was catered to us and our 1st dance song - anytime we felt like a move they suggested was too awkward for us specifically, they accommodated it and showed us other moves that were perfect instead! The staff is also SO friendly. We had Milsa as our instructor and she was so funny and made us feel very comfortable. By our final lesson, we are feeling so confident about our 1st dance and know that we will cherish being able to do this dance in the future when we want to remember our special day :)
April 06 · Kristina LasterWe took dancing lessons prior to our October 2018 wedding and so happy that we did. We felt confident when we stepped onto the dance floor for our 1st dance to "At Last". We heard someone say, "They must have taken dance lessons." When we did the underarm turn, there were cheers from our guests. Thanks to our instructor, Dani and the great staff at this beautiful facility. You made our very important day all the more special!
