Carnegie Performing Arts Center Introduce
For families in the greater Pittsburgh area, finding a place where children can explore their creative talents in a supportive and professional environment is incredibly important. The Carnegie Performing Arts Center (CPAC) stands out as a true cornerstone of the local community, offering a wide range of performing arts education for all ages. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality dance and theater opportunities, and it has been a beloved institution for over 45 years. As one satisfied parent shared, their children have been attending for several years and "love it!" The center is known for its "family friendly atmosphere," making it a perfect place for young people to learn, grow, and shine.
CPAC's philosophy is rooted in the belief that every child can perform and that active participation in all aspects of the performing arts is key to a well-rounded education. This approach ensures that students are not just learning steps or lines, but also gaining a deeper understanding of stage production, teamwork, and discipline. The center's commitment to accessibility is also evident in its pricing, with staff working "very hard to make it affordable for all income levels." This focus on inclusivity means that the joy of dance and theater is available to more families across Pennsylvania.
The variety of classes and performance opportunities is a major highlight. Students can take part in dance, drama, and musical theater, allowing them to explore different facets of the arts. A parent review noted that there are "four performances" every year, and impressively, "every child who auditions gets a part!" This commitment to giving every student a chance to be on stage is a testament to CPAC's dedication to its community. These regular productions provide invaluable stage experience and build confidence in young performers. The center’s productions of "The Nutcracker" have even become a cherished Christmas tradition for many local families, providing a magical holiday experience year after year.
Another unique and valuable feature is the center's dedication to making dance accessible for boys. As one parent highlighted, "CPAC is for boys too! All boys get a scholarship to ballet classes, and my son has enjoyed his tap and jazz classes as well!" This scholarship program is a fantastic way to encourage more young men to explore the world of dance, breaking down traditional barriers and fostering a more inclusive environment. The opportunity for boys to have roles in every performance, from a "snowball fighter" to a "baby bear," ensures they feel seen and valued, making CPAC a truly welcoming place for everyone.

The professional productions, especially the beloved "Nutcracker," are a testament to the high quality of instruction and provide students with a fantastic opportunity to perform in a public setting.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My children have been attending CPAC for several years, and they love it! This is such a family friendly atmosphere! The take part in dance, drama, and musical theater. Every year there are four performances, and every child who auditions gets a part! Our family especially looks forward to the Nutcracker, and it has truly become a Christmas tradition in our family! My oldest daughter has become very involved in ballet at CPAC, and her improvement was striking! She is already dancing on pointe! And CPAC is for boys too! All boys get a scholarship to ballet classes, and my so has enjoyed his tap and jazz classes as well! This year he will be adding hip hop and lyrical to his dance schedule! There are parts for boys in every performance, and mine has loved being a snowball fighter, baby bear, a changeling child, and a dragon fish! Thanks CPAC!
