Mary Lorraine's Dance Center (MLDC) has firmly established itself as a cornerstone of fine arts education in the greater Omaha, Nebraska area for over 35 years. This women-owned studio is more than just a place to learn steps; it is a community hub dedicated to instilling strong technique, confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong love of dance in students of all ages and skill levels. Serving families in West Omaha, Millard, Papillion, Elkhorn, Gretna, and Ralston, MLDC offers a truly comprehensive dance experience in a supportive, family-friendly environment.
The guiding mission of MLDC is built on values that resonate deeply with Nebraska families. The studio places a strong emphasis on maintaining high standards of decency and respect, which is reflected in their commitment to age-appropriate costuming, music, and choreography. This core value is highlighted by long-time patrons, who appreciate that their children are able to "perform and be awarded while still remaining decent." This focus ensures that the children and young adults dancing there are treated appropriately for their age, a reassuring factor for many parents navigating the world of competitive performance.
MLDC's dual-path approach to training sets it apart. The studio offers both a robust Recreational Course and a highly regarded Competitive Program. Teachers make a concerted effort to "get to know, praise and encourage each and every dancer, no matter their skill level." This nurturing and inclusive philosophy ensures that whether a student is taking a weekly Ballet Basics class for fun or training with the Competition Dance Team, they are equally valued and encouraged by the dedicated staff, who are described as being "very knowledgable in their positions" and loving the students "like their own."

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1One or both of my kids (one boy, one girl) have dance at Mary Lorraine’s every year for over ten years now. I can honestly say, we love MLDC and every one of the teachers so, so much! There are several things that I feel set MLDC apart from other dance studios, but I’ll elaborate on just a few.First, having grown up dancing at other studios myself, I experienced firsthand the separation that can happen between the “competition dancers” and the “recreational dancers.” However, my kids have done both recreational and competition team dance at MLDC and there has never once been an insistence where one path was either elevated or looked down on by the teachers or other dancers. Mary Lorraine and her staff make a concerted effort to get to know, praise and encourage each and every dancer, no matter their skill level.Second, MLDC pays particular attention to the fact that the children and young adults dancing with them are just that- children. Mary Lorraine has always made sure that costumes, choreography and song lyrics are appropriate for the kids performing. This is especially evident as a parent watching other studios perform at competitions. You can frequently find kids clad in bras and hot pants sans tights, faces caked in thick makeup and fake eyelashes while they twerk, grind, shimmy and pelvic thrust to vulgar music. This is simply not representative of MLDC or what they teach their dancers. I think it is especially empowering and reassuring to a young teenager that they are able to perform and be awarded while still remaining decent. In the same vein, another thing I truly appreciate about MLDC, especially as a single mom, is that Mary Lorraine does everything she can to keep costs reasonable for us as parents. I personally love that tuition is quarterly instead of monthly (with the option to work out different arrangements individually) and when I had two dancers at the studio, it really helped that they offer discounts for families with more than one child that dances there. Plus, every single expense is laid out each year on the website with dates so I can plan ahead for when things are coming due. Oh! - and it has been awesome that the last few years they switched over to a one time per year, per family media fee that allows everyone to get an downloadable version of all the recital videos! No more trying to keep track of DVDs for each year!Lastly, I could go on for days about how much my children have learned and how much my daughter continues to improve at MLDC. Since the age of 3, she’s learned not just technique, but kindness, caring, manners, teamwork and self confidence at this studio. But even more than any of those things, MLDC is her safe haven. There have been several times that she is sad or stressed about something going on in her or our family’s lives, but after an evening of classes and rehearsals with her friends and beloved teachers, those things suddenly become much smaller and more manageable. Mary Lorraine, Kellie, Brianna, Katelyn, Megan, Maddy and hell, even Mr. Kevin “Lorraine,” have all taken the time to know and show their love and care for her on a personal level. I truly could not imagine a greater team to nurture the passion any child has for dance. 💕
May 22 · Lexi VenteicherGrowing up dancing at this studio, I learned skills way beyond just the art of dance. Time management, confidence, and teamwork are just some of the other important life skills that were instilled in me from a very young age dancing here! I met some of my favorite people, who are more like family, that I still talk to years after graduation. The coaches/teachers love you like their own, want the best for you, and are very knowledgable in their positions. It's truly a wonderful place to dance and I'm forever grateful for this place!!
September 29 · Kyra NordmeyerThere are many dance studios in town and I would choose MLDC every single time! The staff is just wonderful - they care about the students so much and help them grow technically and personally. I am impressed week after week with their professionalism, creativity, and genuine love for dance and their students. I have two daughters with very different personalities - the teachers have met each girl where she is and helped her grow! The studio is incredibly well run and organized, and it means so much to have a studio we can trust. The fact that dancers have grown up here and then choose to bring their kids to the same program speaks volumes! You don’t make 35 years by accident and MLDC is a class above the rest! 10/10 recommend!
May 20 · Cara HillerThis dance studio goes far beyond teaching excellent dance technique and skills, it truly shapes kids and teens for life. The instructors not only provide excellent dance training but also instill discipline, teamwork, confidence, and respect in every class. It’s clear that they genuinely care about their students’ growth, both on and off the dance floor, creating an encouraging environment where we felt supported and challenged.
September 14 · Erin SchuetteWe are almost done with our 10th year at Mary Lorraine Dance Center, and they are celebrating 35 years this year. We are so lucky and blessed to have found this studio and become part of their dance family. My daughter has been dancing since she was 3 and now getting ready to go into high school. The teachers are the best and best technique studio in town!!!!! Great pricing especially for the high quality of teachers, technique, and dance taught. A very modest studio with dances and costumes which gives this mom of a young daughter comfort. My daughter has met her best friends, role models, and has been taught how to be a great young member of society. Please come join us you will love it!!!!!
