★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1ATD has been a great experience. They run a tight ship and are very experienced. The staff are kind and personable. My daughter has enjoyed her lessons and the yearly performance was charming. Classes are all drop-off so the kids can focus on their lessons and adults can wait or leave as needed. Having multiple children, this has been very helpful. 5 stars.
June 15 · Katy CarusoNote: The owner has responded. I am reporting just what occurred during my time @ ATD. Because of my care for the families in this class and my boldness to speak the truth, these parents have information about how their children were treated so they can make a choice about whether this is okay for their child. My demeanor @ all times while on site was calm and appropriate. ** My children attended the free trial class for pre ballet. I sat in the class. The studio really fought me on me being allowed to sit in on the class but I insisted since my children are not even yet 4 years old. There are no windows to view the class which I find very strange for a dance class! My children did fantastic during the class. The class appeared to be fun and my children appeared to enjoy it. But, I witnessed several incidences that occurred with other children in the class that would be a deal breaker for me.First, there was a child who appeared to have some physical disabilities and demonstrated intense apprehension and fear during the class. She was carrying a very small security blanket/stuffie which was soothing her. The teacher took the stuffie away and told her she could not dance with the stuffie in her hands. I felt disturbed to witness this and the subsequent closing off that this child demonstrated. She obviously needed the stuffie for security without her parent. This child then sat in a corner by herself for about 10 minutes. No teacher approached her to comfort her and make sure she was okay. She was left alone. The other things that I observed was 2 children who clearly demonstrated by shaking their heads, putting their heads down, pulling away from the instructor that they did not want to participate in the particular dance sequence that the teacher instructed. The children were pulled by their arms and basically forced being told that they could only have a hand stamp if they were "good dancers" and "followed instructions well" So, both children were forced to do a move they did not want to do.These incidences disturbed me, but what is a deal breaker for me was the behavior of the instructor. After the class I spoke to each of the parents of these children and described what I observed. Each parent was extremely surprised and had no idea this was occurring in the class. I am so glad I alerted them! They have a right to know! After these parents left, the teacher approached me in a somewhat hostile tone telling me that me speaking to the 2 parents was inappropriate. I assured her that it was not. She proceeded to continue going on about this. My 2 young children were standing there and I set a boundary with the teacher that this communication is adult communication and should not take place in front of children. She continued to go on and on and ignored my boundary. I attempted to set a boundary with her 4 times and she ignored it! Lila showed zero care for my children as she spoke. Lila, you do not control my voice, who I speak to and what I say. I can share with whomever I choose what I observed in your class! There should be zero secrets about what happens in these classes. If these concerning things happened while a parent was present, what is happening when no parents are present? My conclusion. The teacher who taught this class has issues with respecting boundaries both of the children and of the parents. This fact is a huge concern! I label the behavior of this teacher as harassing me and trying to intimidate me to be silent. IMO it is inappropriate for a dance studio to forbid parents from observing their young child's class. They should have windows for parents to enjoy viewing the class and they should welcome and expect parents to share our experiences of the classes with each other.I do not feel trust with this dance studio nor this teacher. My vote is no, do not send your children here.
April 28 · jacki pATD is my second home. I have been dancing here since I was 2 years old and I still love it to this day. Every teacher is kind and supportive to every student. I dance there 5 days a week and the community and my love for dance makes me want to do even more! This truly is an amazing studio.
July 28 · Eelin CarsonI'm a beginning adult dancer and have absolutely LOVED coming to this studio. I started with tap and have now expanded my repertoire with a monthly unlimited pass. It's been SO MUCH FUN! Everyone is incredibly welcoming and the instructors intentionally build community with things like special events and opportunities to share during class. The parking has never been a problem for me - lots of ava. street parking, too. Maybe this is only an issue with kids' classes? I can hit U Village for errands before or after class, too. As soon as the music starts, I feel so much joy even if I sometimes just flail around in the back. I'm really grateful to have found this studio! It's been life-changing!
February 14 · Kimberly MitchellI am taking atdStudios adult classes since January 2023, specifically Intermediate/Advanced Ballet and Barre. I really like the school and the instructors, always have great time. When I join a new class, the atmosphere is very welcoming and instructors are always very kind and accommodating to my level. The school also has special events together with the classes, which are a lot of fun.
