★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I enrolled my daughter in the summer program hoping she would refine her dance skills, but unfortunately, the experience was far from what we expected. Instead of focused dance instruction, the majority of the time was spent playing games like Duck Duck Goose, tag, and Hot Potato, along with various non-dance activities. While I understand incorporating fun elements, the lack of actual dance training made the program feel more like glorified babysitting than a dance class. As a parent who paid for dance instruction, I was disappointed that my daughter didn’t have the opportunity to learn and grow as a dancer. If the studio intends to offer a games-and-crafts classes/camps, that should be clearly communicated upfront—not marketed as a dance program. I hope future sessions will prioritize real dance education or at least provide a better balance.
July 29 · Ken SmithNegative experience, lack of professionalism and respect toward students. Some instructors and leaders appear to have little patience for younger kids (general observation). Of course, some staff are great, specifically the music instructor Ms. K. Review is relevant to the Federal Way (2-week theater camp Moana) and Auburn (1-week of summer camp). The theater director of one of the summer productions had children that participated in the program. The director (an adult) decided to shared how she ‘doesn’t like…” my 9 year old with her family and the children (innocently) shared that with my child. INCREDIBLY unprofessional, unkind and likely biased. When I contacted the organization, they acknowledged the incident occurred but failed to refund the remaining days of camp. Why would I want my child to attend an organization with leadership like this? They also failed to provide an apology for the situation. My child had no reported behavior issues. Completely unacceptable. I’ve seen that the organization is inclusive of gender identity and orientation of participants. I cannot report a great deal of ethnic diversity. This statement was made targeting an ethnic participant. I can’t say we felt warmly welcomed but this situation, and the response, confirmed it. Regardless of the motivation behind the directors statements her behavior is shameful.
August 11 · chanel037Disappointing Experience!I want to share my concerns about the quality of instruction at this dance school. I have noticed that the instructor does not pay enough attention to the class. Instruction time is very limited, and instead of actively teaching or correcting students, the instructor spends most of the time simply observing. Many children perform movements incorrectly, yet there is little to no guidance provided.Additionally, classes often start late and end 5-7 minutes early. Given the school’s reputation, we make the effort to bring our children after a long day of work, expecting high-quality dance instruction. However, it feels like both our time and money are being wasted when instructors are not fully engaged with the students. We are not receiving the value we paid for.If an instructor is not feeling well or unable to teach properly, it would be more responsible for them to take time off rather than providing minimal instruction. Children come to class to learn proper dance techniques, not just to pass the time. They deserve engaged and attentive teaching.I hope the school takes this feedback seriously and makes improvements to ensure students receive the instruction they deserve.— A Concerned Parent
February 27 · C CMy daughter has attended Children’s Dance Theater since 2015. It has always been a very positive experience for both of us. The studio staff is very inclusive of everyone. It feels like a second family. We recently wrapped up The Nutcracker and it couldn’t have gone better. Communication is amazing. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. CDT seriously feels like a second home.
December 12 · Jenyka HayesMy oldest daughter has always loved dance, in 2018 we decided to enroll her at Children’s Dance Theater (CDT). The classes were so fun and engaging that my son also joined soon after watching his sister in class. Since starting at CDT my kids have never looked back, it has truly become their second home away from home where they continue to learn more than just dance. Commitment, hard work, friendships, acceptance and they just plain love it at CDT. Beyond dance for all ages and skills, CDT also offers some amazing camps, a Nutcracker production, a spring ballet production, theater programs, art programs and more. Highly recommend this studio!
