Deborah Messinger School of Dance Introduce
Welcome to the Deborah Messinger School of Dance, a long-standing and beloved dance studio located in the heart of Troutdale, Oregon. This family-owned and operated business has been a cornerstone of the community for decades, offering a wide range of dance and movement classes for students of all ages. More than just a place to learn choreography, this school is dedicated to creating a family-like atmosphere where every student feels known, valued, and encouraged to grow. The studio's focus on building a strong community and providing a nurturing environment has made it a favorite for parents seeking a positive and engaging activity for their children.
The core philosophy of the Deborah Messinger School of Dance is centered on a passion for dance and a deep care for the students. The instructors are known for their patience, kindness, and ability to make learning fun, especially for young children. As one parent noted, the school is the "best dance studio" they could have asked for, praising the "talented teachers who are compassionate about the work they do with the kids." This dedication to creating a fun and engaging learning environment is a key reason for the studio's long-standing success. The staff knows their students well, which contributes to the warm, family-like atmosphere. The ability of instructors like Miss Tara to show patience and guide children in a fun way is especially valued by parents, highlighting the quality of the teaching staff.
However, it is important for prospective students and their families to be aware of the studio's operational style. While the classes themselves are often highly praised, a key point of frustration for some families has been the class scheduling. A recent review expressed disappointment over "frequent" and "last-minute" rescheduling, which can make attendance difficult for families with full-time work schedules. This issue of communication and scheduling flexibility has been a point of concern for some, suggesting that while the dance education is top-notch, the administrative side might be a challenge for those with rigid routines. This is a crucial consideration for busy families who need a predictable schedule.
Deborah Messinger School of Dance is conveniently located at 27400 SE Stark St, Troutdale, OR 97060. Choosing a dance studio is a significant decision for any family, and the Deborah Messinger School of Dance offers a unique set of pros and cons that are worth considering. On the one hand, the quality of the dance instruction, the compassionate teachers, and the warm, family-oriented atmosphere are consistently praised by long-term customers. The school's ability to help children grow in confidence and develop a love for dance is a major reason why families return year after year. The preschool program, in particular, has received positive feedback for its effectiveness. On the other hand, the negative feedback about class cancellations and communication issues is a valid concern that busy families must weigh. While the classes themselves are great for kids, the unpredictable schedule may pose a challenge for those with rigid work and life commitments. The owner's responsiveness to concerns has also been a point of frustration for some. It offers excellent dance training and a true sense of community, provided that the potential scheduling challenges can be navigated.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Absolutely the best dance studio! This is our daughter's 4th year here. We started with Mommy & Me, then Tiny Tots, then pre I and now pre 2. We also did 1yr of Rising Star Pre-school at age 4 to get her ready for kindergarten which she now is in. She learned so much at her preschool. Over the years she has made many friends and of course learned some fun dance moves! This is a family owned small business which I very much like becasue they know all the students well and it has that famliy atmosphere. On a side note. Miss Tara who is one of the instructors is wonderful with young children. She shows patience and guides the children in learning in a way that makes it fun which is not easy. Highly recommend.
January 21 · Amber ShawWe loved the trial class - it was fun and engaging for our daughter. Sadly, the experience since signing up has been disappointing. Classes are frequently rescheduled, often at the last minute, making it impossible to attend with our full-time work schedules. We're frustrated because we've missed more classes than we've paid for and now we’re out $150 for 2 months (plus registration). Unfortunately, contacting the owner about our concerns hasn't led to anything as she ignored my wife’s text.Bottom Line: The classes are great for kids, but the unpredictable schedule makes this studio impossible for busy families without a flexible schedule.EDIT: I made another solid attempt to reach out to the owner with 2 emails and a voicemail after her reply to my review but never got a response back so will leave my rating as-is..
August 12 · Geraldo HernandezWe love it here! They have wonderful teachers, great staff and are wonderful with the kids. My daughter has been going here for over 3 years. We switched her from another dance studio and glad we did because she has learned a lot more. My son is now involved here and loves it! He has been doing dance & the preschool. We took a little break from the preschool, but will be going back! Great atmosphere & a family oriented place!
January 19 · Tams DanceSince moving to Oregon my daughter has wanted to go to this studio. This is her second year at Deborah Messinger School of Dance. We spend four nights a week here and it is always clean with friendly staff. Ms. Deborah and Miss Tara have taught my daughter dance with so much love. They have given her so much confidence through their positive encouragement. The love and support my daughter gets from this studio is priceless. I have never met two people that were so dedicated to your child’s happiness. If you are looking for a family friendly studio than I would give this studio a call. You won’t be disappointed.
January 19 · Jennifer SnyderGreat for our daughter's motor skills and socializing. She loves Ms. Tara. She is great at teaching the kids dance and discipline. The recital showed us just how many lives are being touched by this school. Would recommend to anyone
