Oklahoma City Ballet Introduce
The Oklahoma City Ballet (OKCB) is a cornerstone of the arts community in Central Oklahoma, serving as both a professional, nationally-recognized dance company and a strong educational institution through the Yvonne Chouteau School. Established in 1963, the organization has a rich history rooted in the vision of celebrated dancers, including Yvonne Chouteau, one of Oklahoma’s own internationally acclaimed “Five Moons.” The mission of the Oklahoma City Ballet is to inspire its audience through a diverse repertoire of classical and contemporary dance performances, coupled with robust educational programs and deep community engagement.
The organization’s commitment extends far beyond the stage. The professional company is comprised of talented dancers from around the world, performing major productions—such as the annual favorite, The Nutcracker—at the Civic Center Music Hall, where they are the resident dance company. Simultaneously, the Yvonne Chouteau School, named for the company's first artistic director, provides quality, accessible dance instruction to students of all ages and levels, from creative movement for toddlers to intensive professional-track training.
The atmosphere at the Oklahoma City Ballet is defined by excellence, community, and inclusivity. Its professional dedication to diversity, equity, and accessibility ensures that the facility is a welcoming space for everyone. The organization is committed to providing enriching artistic experiences that not only increase the appreciation of ballet but also foster a lifelong interest in the arts throughout the wider Oklahoma community.
The home of the Oklahoma City Ballet and the Yvonne Chouteau School is the state-of-the-art Susan E. Brackett Dance Center, a beautifully designed, award-winning facility located in the northwest area of Oklahoma City. The official address is 6800 N Classen Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73116, USA, placing it conveniently along a major thoroughfare.
Accessibility is a key priority for the Oklahoma City Ballet, reflecting its commitment to inclusivity. The Susan E. Brackett Dance Center is fully equipped with essential features to ensure that all patrons, students, and visitors can easily navigate the space. These features include a dedicated Wheelchair Accessible Entrance, providing easy access into the facility. Furthermore, a Wheelchair Accessible Parking Lot is available on the premises, with 147 spaces total, ensuring plentiful and convenient parking for all guests. The facility itself, which sits on nearly three acres, is designed to be a comfortable and welcoming environment, complete with beautiful studios, a lobby, and a specialized Wellness Studio for dancer health services.
In addition to the physical accessibility of the school and administrative offices, OKCB is committed to program accessibility, actively providing sensory-friendly performances of main stage productions, such as The Nutcracker, in collaboration with organizations like AutismOklahoma. September 06 · ShantelMy daughter went here for summer intensive and she loved it!
July 11 · N eilFriday night’s (10/22/21) presentation of Alice in Wonderland was a thoroughly exhilarating experience! What a treasure the OKC Ballet is for our community. The dancing was superb and the music top notch. Additionally my physical perspective being from box seating enabled me to see back stage, have a more intimate interaction with props and a perspective on lighting that was possibly enhanced beyond what others may have seen. The art of coordination that must go into every production was fascinating to observe. I found the staging and props particularly intriguing. Not only were they beautiful and extremely creative, they completely elevated the articulation of the story. Every minute detail was expertly planned and executed. The “show” was lovely and the talent, in every way, exceptional. I found “ART” in the entire, overarching weaving of complex details into a spectacular production of both the seen and unseen. My senses have been opened to the ART of the ARTS in an entirely new way. Thank you to all involved as you have created a forever fan!Bravo!!!!!Seth KingOklahoma City
