The core philosophy of Symmetry Dance Wellness is to make the art of ballet accessible and meaningful for adults. The instructors, particularly Kip, are noted for their dedication to teaching "specific details" and treating their students "with professionalism," as if they were preparing for a major performance. This serious and respectful approach to teaching sets the studio apart from many others. For many students, this professional atmosphere is exactly what they are looking for, a place where they can take their passion for dance seriously and see real, tangible improvements in their strength, flexibility, and technique. The studio's commitment to the traditional "Russian Ballet School" style adds a layer of authenticity and rigor to the training.
While the studio aims for a high level of professionalism, it also fosters a sense of community and support. The "Drop-In Classes" offer great flexibility for those with busy schedules, allowing them to participate in their wellness journey without a rigid commitment. The positive impact on students' physical and mental health is a recurring theme in their experiences, with one reviewer highlighting how ballet helped them get into shape, increase their flexibility, and serve as a "wonderful escape" from their corporate job. Symmetry Dance Wellness is a place where adults can rediscover their inner dancer and achieve a greater sense of well-being through the power of movement.

What is worth choosing
For residents of the Pennsylvania region, particularly those in Philadelphia, Symmetry Dance Wellness is a unique and compelling choice for adult dance education. The primary reason to choose this studio is its unwavering focus on the adult dancer. Unlike studios that primarily cater to children and teens, Symmetry is designed to meet the specific needs and goals of adults. This specialization is evident in the quality of instruction, which, as one student noted, provides a level of detail and professionalism that is often "brushed through" in other classes. This serious approach allows adults to truly learn and progress, transforming their passion into a skill.
The studio's "Absolute Beginner Ballet" course is a perfect entry point for those with no prior experience. It offers a structured way to build a foundation, gain confidence, and experience the physical benefits of ballet, such as increased strength and flexibility. The convenience of "Drop-In Classes" is also a major plus, catering to the often unpredictable schedules of working adults. This flexibility makes it easier to commit to a wellness routine without feeling overwhelmed.
However, it is important to note that a dance studio's environment and culture are as crucial as its curriculum. While many students, like the one who praised the professional instruction, have had positive experiences, it is essential for prospective students to be aware of the range of experiences. A separate review mentioned a negative interaction with a substitute teacher, noting that the class was not "body positive whatsoever" and that their feedback was not addressed. This suggests that while the studio aims for inclusivity, experiences can vary. For a new student, especially one who is sensitive, it may be beneficial to explore the studio's culture in person to ensure it aligns with their personal needs. Ultimately, what is worth choosing about Symmetry Dance Wellness is its dedication to providing high-quality, professional dance instruction tailored specifically for adults. For the right individual, it can be a transformative and rewarding experience, offering both physical wellness and a wonderful artistic escape.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I started with taking Absolute Beginner Ballet in 2019 and the class gave me confidence to learn ballet as an adult without prior experience growing up. I got into shape over the course of the class. My strength and flexibility increased and I felt so much better. Also learning the combinations felt really good for my brain and a wonderful escape from my corporate job. I continued taking Kip's weekly drop ins for several years. I have tried other adult ballet classes at other studios and I think Kip really takes more time to teach you specific details and doesn't brush through them like I've experienced in other classes. He takes the class seriously and treats his students with professionalism, as if we too will be performers on stage prepping for our big day.
July 17 · Emily DabneyI participated in an 8 week absolute beginner course at Symmetry. For the most part, I found the class to be inclusive and casual, which I appreciated since I just wanted to try something new. While amongst the participants there were some small gripes about classes starting later than intended, I thought it was a great workout and was helping me become more flexible. Unfortunately, I had a pretty negative 1:1 experience with a substitute teacher that ended in me crying and feeling very discouraged to try ballet again. Apart from my personal experience with the substitute teacher, they also spent the class calling some students' movements "ugly", telling people that they needed to suck in their stomachs more, etc. I understand that ballet is an art form, but did not feel like the session was body positive whatsoever. I did email Kip about this for over a month but I never even got any kind of response from him. I found the experience as well as the customer service after the fact to be disappointing for a dance practice that preaches inclusivity and aims to bring ballet to a wider range of individuals. I wouldn't personally recommend the class at this point in time.
November 13 · Chloe SmithI was interested in coming here. I was looking for a positive, judgement free, inclusive place to take a ballet class. Judging from the review that was left by the woman who was discouraged from taking classes here…I think I will pass! That’s not a good look on the company. No response is still a response!!
March 21 · Victoria OhSoPrettyIm so excited to find this place! Kip is so knowledgeable about ballet and the body and I love all the nuggets of info he provides along with the excellent instruction. A true beginners ballet is hard to find and this class is fab!
September 05 · beachlvrThis is a great place to take class. Kip is a dedicated and passionate teacher. I look forward to returning as soon as my schedule allows, but just show up and try a class. You can VENMO at the door too.
