Bharatha Darshana Cumming Introduce
Introduction / Overview
Bharatha Darshana in Cumming, GA, is a distinguished institution dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Indian classical dance and music. As a dance school, a music school, and a performing arts group, it offers a comprehensive curriculum for both youth and adults, from beginners to advanced students. The school specializes in Bharatanatyam, a revered Indian classical dance form, as well as Carnatic vocal music and Mridangam, an Indian percussion instrument. As a women-owned business, Bharatha Darshana prides itself on fostering a loving and dedicated environment where students are not just taught a skill, but are also immersed in the rich cultural tradition behind the art forms.
The school is led by its director, Guru Smt. Soujanya Madhusudan, a talented and accomplished dancer and teacher. The school follows the world-renowned Kalakshetra style of Bharatanatyam, known for its pristine purity and traditional approach. The curriculum is designed to impart not only the practical aspects of dance and music but also the theoretical knowledge and cultural significance, which are integral parts of the learning process. Bharatha Darshana is more than just a place for lessons; it's a community where students and their families are deeply invested in their artistic journey. One parent expressed their pride in the school, stating, "Mrs. Soujanya Madhusudan is a very talented and very professionally dedicated down to earth GURU for my daughter. She is a kind hearted person who shows love and care to all her students." The parent's daughter, who has been learning for six years, shows "full love and dedication" for the classes, which the family calls a "delightful-dedicated-devotional-service."
While the school receives significant praise for its dedication and the positive impact on its students, it is important to acknowledge that it has faced some criticism. A strong negative review from a person who attended an Arangetram (a debut solo performance) was highly critical of the quality of the performance and the teaching. This individual expressed concern over what they perceived as a poor standard of presentation and a commercialized approach that they felt was an insult to the art form. This view, however, contrasts sharply with the numerous positive testimonials that highlight the teacher's talent and dedication. This difference in opinion underscores the subjective nature of artistic evaluation and the deeply personal connection students and families feel to their guru and school.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Just saw this lady has classes in Georgia - must not teach..I attended the recent arangetram conducted by Ms. Sowjanya, expecting a respectable debut performance. What unfolded on stage, from the very first item, was nothing short of appalling. The standard of presentation was so poor that even a six-year-old beginner would have done a greater justice to these pieces. This was not simply a lackluster performance—it was a complete travesty.Let me be clear: I do not hold the student or their family responsible for this debacle. The blame lies squarely with the teacher, Ms. Sowjanya, whose actions can only be described as exploitative. It is unconscionable to take advantage of parents’ emotional investment and financial commitment, only to deliver such an abysmal result. The fact that you, Ms. Sowjanya, continue to masquerade as a torchbearer of the Adyar Lakshman legacy is an insult to the art form and to all those who have dedicated their lives to upholding its standards. The accompanying artists, who accepted gifts and lavished praise on this disaster of a show, are complicit in this charade. To see respected names forced to participate in this farce, and to witness the MC reading out a litany of dubious awards and fake accolades, was deeply distressing. The stage was not a platform for showcasing genuine talent, but a vehicle for self-promotion and hollow pageantry.Your decision to insert “Aigiri Nandini” as a central piece in the arangetram, while the extended family and those familiar with the true standards of Bharatanatyam looked on in disbelief, was the final insult. The laughter and derision from those who actually understand this art form spoke volumes.Shame on you, Ms. Sowjanya, for bringing disrepute to the title of Guru. Shame on you for preying on the hopes of innocent parents and children. Shame on you for using your platform to bestow meaningless awards on established artists, further cheapening the significance of genuine recognition. You have not only failed your student, you have failed the entire community of dance educators and practitioners who strive to maintain the dignity and integrity of Bharatanatyam. You should be deeply ashamed.

December 12 · anandamurugan nagarajanI want to express my sincere appreciation for your unwavering dedication and passion for Bharatanatyam. Your unique choreography not only showcases your creativity but also makes learning so engaging and enjoyable for the kids. The way you blend tradition with innovative techniques is truly inspiring. What stands out the most is your patience, kindness, and the way you create a positive, kid-friendly atmosphere in your classes. You’ve made such a difference in their learning journey. Another thing we truly admire is how you encourage the kids to take the lead and even teach each other. This not only builds their confidence but also enhances their learning and understanding of the art form. As a parent, if we ever make any mistakes, please forgive us, and know that we are so grateful for your guidance and commitment. Thank you for nurturing their love for this beautiful art form with so much care and attention!
December 12 · Kamakshi IlapavuluriSmt. Soujanya is an amazing artist and a great teacher. She is strict but kind and inculcates good values in her students. She is very organized and provides a nurturing platform for students to showcase their skills. The way she interacts with students with varying skill levels and boosts their morale is one of her many strengths.I was simply blown away by her patience and calm when organizing "SmaranArpanam" which was a spectacular success. My daughter has transformed into a confident artist and has developed a passion for dancing after joining BharataDharshana.I hope to see my daughter grow under her able guidance.
February 27 · Renuka KrishnamurthyBharatha Darshana has kept the heritage of Bharatanatyam alive far from India without corrupting the traditions of the Guru- Shishya Parampara. I have watched my 7 year old dancing, and over the years she has imbibed more than basic Nritta and Abhinaya.she has learnt commitment to this classical form of art even in this pandemic situation through virtual classes and various programs offered by this academy.Like all her Classmates she could not have achieved these milestones in classical dance without her Guru Soujanya Madhusudhan and Bharatha Darshana. Most importantly Guru Soujanya has imparted in my child a genuine love, pride and respect for this Divine Dance form.
