Jan Ondrias brings over two decades of experience, including competitive success as a two-time champion of the Czech Republic in Showdance and a finalist in World and European Championships, directly to the local community.
What truly sets this instruction apart is the unique combination of professional pedigree and highly accessible teaching style. As praised by local customers, the lessons are focused, efficient, and delivered with a "good sense of humor," ensuring that students not only learn a lot but "always have fun." The curriculum is structured to be effective, getting students through new figures and techniques on a focused rotation, meaning there is "no wasted time." Jan Ondrias offers a comprehensive range of ballroom and Latin dance instruction, catering to a full spectrum of skill levels and interests, from social dancing to advanced technique. The core services provided include:
- Group Classes: Structured weekly classes split by skill level, offering a social and cost-effective way to learn.
- Newcomer/Beginners Classes: Typically held on Mondays, designed for those with no prior experience to learn popular figures in dances like Swing, Cha-Cha, Foxtrot, and Tango.
- Intermediate to Advanced Classes: Usually held on Tuesdays, focusing on more complex figures in dances such as Quickstep, Bolero, Viennese Waltz, and Rumba, requiring prior dance experience.
- Private Lessons: Personalized, one-on-one instruction for individuals or couples seeking focused attention, rapid progression, or choreography for special events, though popular for all goals.
- Wide Dance Repertoire: Instruction covers both American and International styles across all four levels, spanning over a dozen dances, including:
- Swing Dances: East Coast Swing and West Coast Swing.
- Ballroom Dances: Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, and Quickstep.
- Latin Dances: Samba, Cha-Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive, Bolero, Mambo, and Salsa.
- Specialty Dances: Hustle, Argentine Tango, and Polka.
- Technical and Musical Elements: Instruction is heavily focused on developing technical skills and musicality to create "masterful dancers," rather than just memorizing steps.
- Wedding Dance Choreography: Leveraging deep experience in choreography to create custom routines for couples (though not explicitly stated, this is a standard service for high-level instructors).
Jan Ondrias's instruction stands out in the competitive Massachusetts dance scene due to several unique features and professional highlights:
- World-Class Expertise Locally: Jan Ondrias is a highly accomplished competitor, bringing the knowledge of a professional who has been a professional Latin American Championship Finalist and two-time Czech Republic Showdance Champion.
- Affordable Group Classes: Class rates are very reasonable for the high level of instruction, making dance accessible to the local community, which is a major draw for social dancers.
- Small Class Size: Group classes are intentionally kept small to ensure students "get a lot of personal attention," bridging the gap between group and private instruction.
- Structured, Focused Curriculum: The instruction follows a clear, two-week rotation for new figures, ensuring a fast-paced, effective learning environment where "no wasted time" occurs.
- Dual-Level Programming: Clearly defined Newcomer and Intermediate-Advance classes ensure students are learning at the appropriate pace and level, preventing frustration and maximizing enjoyment.
- Focus on Social Dancing: While advanced training is available, the environment is particularly welcoming and effective for those "only interested in social dancing," which appeals to the majority of community members.
- High Fun Factor: The instructor's great sense of humor and engaging teaching method ensure a fun, relaxed, and enjoyable experience for all participants.

Jan is a great ballroom and latin teacher. He will get you through new figures in all the dances on a 2 week rotation. No wasted time, gets right to it. Good sense of humor too so we always have fun!Beginners classes Mon and intermediate to advanced on Tuesday. Very reasonable rates for the group classes. Small class size so you get a lot of personal attention. Highly recommend for those just starting, or intermediate dancers wanting to expand their repertoire.Private lessons also but we haven’t taken any because we are only interested in social dancing, not competition. I am sure they are great also.
