LPAS is a highly requested magnet school for students in grades K-5, offering a vibrant learning adventure in the heart of downtown Louisville. Its philosophy is built on the belief that integrating the arts—specifically dance, music, and drama—positively impacts the academic achievement and overall well-being of all students. Parents consistently praise the school for its commitment to both high-quality academics and the invaluable life skills gained through the arts. One parent noted that the school and staff are "very attentive to our child's education" and they were happy with how the school worked with them "regarding the student's wellbeing and quality of education." The innovative use of the arts to reinforce core subjects makes learning fun and helps students better focus, obtain, and retain information, a key factor in its success.

- Comprehensive Performing Arts Programs: Required instruction in Music, Visual Arts, and Theater/Drama is built into the students' daily or weekly schedules, not merely offered as electives.
- Specialized Arts Studios: Access to state-of-the-art facilities dedicated to the arts, including dance studios, drama studios, a piano lab, and music rehearsal halls.
- Drama Education: Focus on core theatre discipline skills (voice, body, imagination, stage presence) and practical application through creative play, literature, and learning technical elements like set and costume design.
- Gifted Program Offerings: Availability of gifted education programs to encourage and challenge students in their areas of strength.
- Performing Ensembles: Opportunities to participate in specialized school units like the acclaimed Marching Band unit, which includes band, majorettes, and a dance team, showcasing their Lion's pride during community events.
- Family Resource and Support Services: Provision of support services through the Family Resource Center, including family literacy programs and referrals to health services for students and their families in Jefferson County.
The distinct features of Lincoln Elementary Performing Arts School position it as a regional leader in elementary education in Kentucky:
- First JCPS Performing Arts Magnet: LPAS was the first elementary school in the Jefferson County School District to pioneer the full integration of core academic curriculum with dance, music, and drama.
- Dedicated Arts Wing and Black Box Theater: A significant expansion and renovation provided state-of-the-art facilities, including a 3,000 square-foot black box theater (a popular venue for student and community performances) and dedicated dance and drama studios.
- Strong Community Arts Partnerships: The school regularly partners with major Louisville arts organizations, offering students unique, professional-level arts experiences, from set design to musical composition.
- Focus on Confidence and Communication: The drama curriculum is explicitly process-oriented, with a main focus on building self-esteem, self-expression, communication, and cooperation—skills deemed useful in all life situations and careers.
- High Student-Teacher Ratio: With a student-teacher ratio of approximately 16:1, students benefit from more individualized attention and a more focused learning environment compared to larger, non-magnet schools.
- Student-Centered Governance: The school operates with a site-based decision making (SBDM) council, where teachers and parents actively participate in committees to shape policies on curriculum, instructional practices, school climate, and assessment.
- Academic Success Through Arts Integration: The school successfully uses the performing arts as a scaffold for learning core subjects, a method praised by parents for making education more engaging and improving retention.

October 20 · lilly 2 fireI went here from Kindergarten to 5th grade, such a good school! The staff members were so kind and seemed genuinely interested in the student's education and enjoyment. Their events were always so much fun! The new principal and vice principal are kinda trash though, compared to Mrs. French Epps and Mr. Ice 😒
February 27 · Lesbian GrannyWonderful school! All the staff members seem truly committed to helping students learn and also have fun. My daughter has been at LPAS for two years now and she loves it. I have nothing but great things to say about all her teachers. I feel so fortunate to have my daughter at Lincoln.
