What makes Monet School of Ballet a notable place to choose for dance education in Jacksonville are its specific highlights and approach to teaching.
- Instructor's Philosophy: The owner and lead instructor, Leah Monet, has a strong belief in the importance of fundamental ballet technique. Her focus on teaching terminology, body placement, and strength provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the art form, not just a series of steps.
- Technical Growth: Many students and parents note a significant improvement in technical ability after joining the school. The curriculum is designed to challenge students and foster their growth, regardless of their starting point.
- Focus on Individual Needs: The school aims to provide a learning environment that is both fun and challenging. Instructors are described as kind and sweet, committed to teaching their students.
- Ballet and Contemporary Focus: Based on a customer review, the dances taught and stretches are well-regarded. Students appreciate the quality of instruction in both ballet and contemporary styles.
It is important for potential new students to be aware that some past students have reported challenges with feeling integrated into the existing student body, as mentioned in a review. While the instructors are described as kind and sweet, one former student felt that as a newcomer, they were expected to already know the steps and struggled to keep up, which can be a difficult experience for a beginner. This highlights the school's focus on technique and may be better suited for students who are serious about their training. The community aspect can be a mix of experiences, with some students finding a welcoming family atmosphere and others feeling like an outsider. This is a factor for families to consider, especially when transitioning to a new studio.

January 11 · Brenda Crump-GillyardI went there and although the dance instructors were very kind, I was new to ballet and they expected me to already know the steps with the other girls. They never taught me the basics of ballet so I had trouble keeping up with the other girls. As I said before, the dance instructors were kind and sweet but the other girls were rude and I felt alone every class. There were only a few girls my age that were kind and friendly to me but the girls older than me by a year, were disgustingly rude since I ever joined the dance classes. They were never friendly until they were forced to when they were partnered up with me. I heard them whispering about my posture, my leaps, and my toes. I felt nervous every time I went to ballet class because of the girls. Keep in mind, there were still a few kind girls. The dances we were taught and the stretches we had were good. I loved ballet and contemporary and just dance in general and I wanted to continue to do dance from this studio but after our first performance, it was decided that I would quit since I felt so lonely and miserable in the studio. I felt excluded. I've told my mother if we could please go to another studio but she felt that I was just embarrassed and didn't even want to do dance but it was really I was nervous that if I give my all into the dances, the other girls would make fun of me.
