National Academy of Artistic Gymnastics Introduce
For parents in the Eugene and greater Oregon region seeking a strong, comprehensive start for their children’s physical and developmental journey, the National Academy of Artistic Gymnastics (NAAG) stands as a long-standing, respected institution. Founded in 1973 by Olympian Linda Metheny Mulvihill and Richard Mulvihill, NAAG is known globally for training world-class, even Olympic-level, athletes. Crucially, however, it remains firmly rooted in the local community by offering exceptional recreational programs for all ages and abilities. While widely recognized as a premier gymnastics center, it also operates a highly effective and specialized program that functions similarly to a preschool, focusing intensely on early movement education that directly impacts a child's cognitive, social, and emotional growth.
The core philosophy at NAAG is that "fitness is fun" and that a solid foundation of physical literacy is a gift that lasts a lifetime. The dedicated preschool program, often referred to as 'Gyminicricket University,' caters specifically to the unique needs of young Oregonians from walking toddlers through age six. These aren't just drop-in play sessions; they are structured movement programs with weekly, engaging themes that teach essential motor skills in a progressive curriculum. The fundamental goals are to help children increase their body awareness, spatial understanding, strength, flexibility, and balance—all while capturing their imagination and ensuring a positive, stimulating experience. The integration of physical activity with structured learning builds vital neurological pathways, which academic studies consistently show can promote reading readiness, improve listening skills, and lengthen attention spans, successfully preparing children for elementary school.
Location and Accessibility
The National Academy of Artistic Gymnastics is perfectly positioned to serve families throughout Eugene and the wider Willamette Valley, making it a reliable and easy-to-reach destination for daily and weekly classes.
Address: 1205 Oak Patch Rd, Eugene, OR 97402, USA
Accessibility for all Oregonians is a high priority at NAAG. The facility provides clear and necessary accommodations, including a wheelchair accessible entrance, a designated wheelchair accessible parking lot, and fully equipped wheelchair accessible restrooms. Beyond compliance, the center is spacious, bright, and clean, featuring modern, well-maintained equipment essential for both safety and skill development, such as trampolines, specialized beams, bars, and foam pits. This commitment to an inclusive and comfortable environment ensures a hassle-free experience for parents and guardians.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We couldn’t be happier with our experience at the National Academy of Artistic Gymnastics! From open gyms to summer camps, every interaction with this incredible team has exceeded our expectations. The professionalism and expertise of the staff are unmatched—but what truly sets them apart is their emotional intelligence and ability to connect with kids and teens of all ages. The coaches create a supportive, encouraging environment where children thrive not only physically but also emotionally. They understand how to meet each child where they are developmentally and help them grow with confidence and joy. This place feels like a cornerstone of the community. We’re beyond excited for our children to start classes this fall and continue their gymnastics journey surrounded by such dedicated, knowledgeable, and inspiring role models. The foundation they’re building here will benefit them in every physical activity and sport to come. Grateful to be part of the NAAG family!
July 25 · Krystl TrubachikWe've been taking our toddler to gymnastics here for over six months now, and we have been very impressed. The program is organized and age appropriate. They clearly know what they are doing. We've loved each of the coaches: KJ, JoJo, and Megan. I've had multiple family members take our toddler and each of them have reported a great experience. My dad, as a former gymnastics coach, was very impressed by the equipment and skills taught.
August 08 · Anna SalemoThe gymnastics coaches all seem really good and nice; however, there is a SERIOUS problem with space here for anyone with the kiddos to sit. Apparently no one cares? Outside of the summer, the gym runs all classes at the same time and parking is difficult and sitting inside is even harder. The fact that parents are rude and don’t make any room for people to sit (but have plenty of water bottle space) is an added issue. NAAG… use some of alllllll your $$$$ to buy a bigger building to accommodate parents spending a ton .. so they have somewhere to observe the participants. Some people only come with one kid (so the big families that take up the one bench for over an hour is an issue. Geez ..🙄
September 08 · Janet SparksWe have been sending our girls here for the last few years and can’t recommend it enough. In addition to learning gymnastics in a positive environment the coaches are amazing. You can tell that they are really passionate about what they do and care about the kids in their classes. The coaches who teach and own it are amazing!
February 29 · Adam WoldtOct 2024 update:After changing my review because of an issue, they immediately responded and solved the issue. Love that they listen!Editing review from 5 stars to 3 stars.I've been going to both Tuesday & Thursday open gyms for preschool ages. Every time a bigger 7+ year old class is in the gym at the same time and it is completely unsafe. This time takes the cake when kids are running back and fourth during a game and my 1.5yr old son can't safely cross the gym to play. This is so unacceptable. I'm very frustrated that I'm paying for open gym that they're very strict is only for preschool ages, yet I'm having to keep my child from crossing the gym for fear of him getting hurt after a bigger kid already tried stepping on the hula hoop he was playing with and almost hurting him. Very upset with this dynamic. I love coming here and now I'm considering not coming anymore.Absolutely love this place! My son is 1.5yrs and he has so much fun! Instructors are awesome! We go to the open gym times, trialed a wiggle worm class and he just wasn't quite ready for all the stretching and prep beforehand, but we'll be doing those when he gets a little bit more understanding of what's going on! Great facility, clean, child proofed really well!
