December 07 · Reemarie AndersonLet me tell you a story… Our daughter is heartbroken about not going here anymore, because we were kicked out due to an insensitive owner and I’ll tell you all about it below. Our daughter took a class here last year and it was great. We heard rumors of the cattiness and a few adults within the program were rude but it was fine as our daughter had a great time. This year rolls around and our daughter is in an older class. Now is when the issue starts. We enrolled her but we wondered if she needed ballet shoes as she didn’t the previous year. We also heard they changed location but it wasn’t clear if that’s where the new class would be. We sent an email and an Instagram message to Abby Kirk, who runs the studio. She saw the message on Instagram at least, and continued to post stories and posts on Facebook during the 8 days we had not heard back from her. The class was in a week and we wanted to know if she needed shoes so we could order some in time.Meanwhile all of our emails and messages wished her happy holidays and good mornings and there was no malice or meanness from us. We have the pictures to prove that. We emailed a second time, as we weren’t sure still and thought maybe she didn’t see us email (even though she did on Instagram). Same thing, our email was nicely worded. She continued to post on Facebook about contacting them with the email if anyone had any questions and to sign up for the upcoming classes. We commented on the Facebook post that we had no received a response in over a week and messaged and emailed twice and it’s been almost a week. That’s when we finally got an email from Abby, and it was very catty and mean, almost like the attitude we heard about from other parents. Also a few other parents also commented on my Facebook comment that they had not received responses and getting a response is “like winning a prize” because it’s so rare. Her email basically said she is only one person and she cannot respond to all the emails because she doesn’t have anyone helping on social media and emails (which someone close to her told us that she does have someone and even told us who it is - besides the point though) and said things like I’m not sure if you know this, and I do take time for holidays and came off so mean. We just had simple questions and she didn’t even answer them in her rant.We emailed back (irritated this time) that she didn’t answer our questions still and we asked them again. She did tell us in her first email we hadn’t paid a 3 day Encanto class to which we responded that it ended up only being 2 days with no notice and the kids had a performance we weren’t told about and the kids also did not get to do Encanto crafts which was also promised. On top of that we run two businesses of our own and never have a problem communicating, despite the holidays. Needless to say we were firm this time but still not insulting her and we paid the Encanto fee because our kid loves dance and a lot of friends go here. She emailed the next day and basically kicked us out and this was all because of her failure to just write us a simple yes or no and which location or say anything like I’m on holiday or vacation I’ll get back to you when I get back. She looked at our messages and ignored us and we were completely nice until her snotty email and then when she was given some stern words back, kicked us out. It’s her business and she can do what she wants but I’ll definitely have my opinion to the way she handled us as clients and word of mouth is the best form of marketing. She blocked us immediately after she sent her email from the group on Facebook and the online portal all due to her being so fragile about clients asking for information. Pretty wild and if you’re considering here, there are dance studios in Ludington and Fremont for just as much money with better teachers (Wife had them all through being young) and better options for classes and the fees for registering are not as high.
December 09 · Doc HollidaySigning up for a class was easy and we were put on the waitlist. We got an email before Christmas (12/22) saying that there was an opening for my daughter’s class and to email back if we were interested. They did mention that winter break was beginning so I responded when I got out of work that same day saying that we are absolutely interested and asked a few questions. Didn’t hear back.I waited until 1/8 to send a follow up email, asking if there was anything special we needed to do. Didn’t hear back.I searched for a phone number or any way to contact someone directly and could not find one. There was a different email address listed in the “contact us” area of their website so I sent an email to that email address on 1/10. The same day, I believe, I ended up on their Facebook page, where I commented on a post (the post is now deleted) and the studio responded apologizing and promising to call me the following day. Didn’t hear anything.I then sent another email (1/15) trying to figure out what to do. I don’t want to just show up with my daughter, who is 3, and be turned around. It would crush her. Didn’t hear back.I commented on another post day (1/22) asking someone to reach out to me so we could get it all figured out. No response.I would love more than anything to have my daughter be in dance. It’s something she’s been asking to do for a year. I told her that she was pulled from the waitlist and I swear she was more excited about that than she was for Christmas! Yet the seemingly impossible task of getting ahold of anyone who can help us has me at a loss of what to do and honestly a bit worried about what it would be like to have her go there. I just went on Facebook to look for the comment that I mentioned previously so I could post an accurate date, and saw that another parent couldn’t get in contact with anyone to let them know her daughter was sick. At this point I guess we are just going to cut our losses and look elsewhere.
