★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1the staff and new management at the asheville location are just amazing! i dont understand where some of the previous negative reviews are coming from. every time i have come in the assistance has been phenomenal with many options for shoes and clothing and they are willing to order exactly what i need if it is not in stock at their location!
June 06 · sophieI agree with other reviewers that sadly this Asheville location has some issues to work through. I think if another dance supplier opened in town, this place would be in trouble. I know it’s tough to run a small business, so I hope they figure things out. Before writing this review, I left my number and asked to talk to the owner about a number of issues, but never received a call. They do have a nice selection and I like many who work there. But their approach to customers is almost unbelievable. The worst was when I was in there with my children and buying hundreds of dollars of items. One of my kids had to use the restroom and they said we absolutely could not use it there. We had one child in the changing room with a bunch of things we were going to buy, but there wasn’t even a place within walking distance that was open. The associates were as kind as they could be but said they would get in major trouble with the owner if they made an exception. So we had to leave everything and drive away from the store to find a restroom. I understand stores have policies they need to keep, but there are just too many times they are stuck in those over their customers.
May 21 · Korie KennedyI have shopped at the Sock Basket for years and always had such excellent service and selection. After spending an afternoon trying to find a jazz shoe that would work for my daughter (she has very small and thin feet) we decided to try a different style than the studio normally allows. I was worried it wouldn’t work so I asked about returning and was told “as long as it’s not worn you can bring it back”. Turns out it’s only for store credit, which I can understand. It would have been nice for the associate to make that clear, before the purchase but I understand things happen. (There was a small sign under the register but it was well below my eye level and I never saw it). I attempted to have the associate order the correct size so I could use my gift card, but I was told they were unable to order a size 13.5 off of the Bloch website. (I was told the only sizes available are an 11.5 and then a 4) I immediately went on Bloch’s website and ordered the exact same jazz shoe in the correct size and it will be here within a week. Not sure why sock basket was unable to do it but I had no trouble finding the size. The customer service was still good and most of my issues had to do with things outside of the workers hands but it was still a frustrating experience. I totally understand the reasoning for the policy in place so people won’t just use them to try on shoes then order online, but in this case I wanted to buy from them but they kept telling me it’s not available in your size. I always want to shop local but instances like this make it hard not to just go online.
October 24 · Amy CrockerTruly a Dancers store!... pic by me. Both my 10 year old Granddaughters Meadow Rayne & Emma-Claire shop here and love it! Both of our dancers attend award winning "Center Stage Dance" In Arden. Meadow Rayne who just won a Scholarship in her first competion and Emma-Claire always request gifts from "Sock Basket".
October 26 · Lucille /Lucy Anne FraserI called the store last week to ask about getting new pointe shoes for my daughter. I thought they might have the details in their system because she was fitted there, but I wasn’t sure. She couldn’t find the name and then she realized they made a mistake and probably put my daughters name in wrong. Hensley is a common last name so I was cautious and made a note to double check. My daughter grabbed a couple more items, toe pads and hair nets. The total was 167$ and some change. My daughter was going to pay half and I was putting half on my card.A lot was going on because apparently the sick basket has the most unusual PoS system. I missed the shoe said 5.5 XXM not 5.5XXS. Everything was right just a M not an S.Sale completed I ask the associate Emily about it. At this point with the sale completed and being caught selling me the wrong shoe she turned from nice sales associate to rude. At this point I want to make clear after talking to a few people we agreed she had always been nice. She explained the difference and I explained she should have told me before making a change. I loose confidence in a sales associate that isn’t upfront. I don’t know if they are making up excuses or if the change is irrelevant at that point. My trust in doing business with them just rolled down hill at that point. I would prefer to know what we were changing before she unilaterally decided the change was appropriate. The worst that could happen is I decided no we prefer the shoe she originally had. We may have even concluded it was fine. She told me she could get the other shoe if my daughter was too weak for the new one. As if to say if you question my sale I’ll make your 15 year old dancer feel weak. It was classic mean girls dance edition I guess. Thankfully we don’t play that at my daughters studio. At this point she *told* me I was getting store credit. Here is where the sock basket just has very shady business practices. She said her very unique POD system can’t give refunds. I told her I don’t believe her and I left with my things.I happen to know they have a store in Greenville. So I called looking for the owner. I was going to be content to express my dissatisfaction with her POS system. Suggest she get a new one that she can actually conduct proper business with instead of whatever this scam system was. The manager at Greenville was AMAZING. She is getting a review next. She went above and beyond. She listened to make our issues right. And here is the most important part she did in fact arrange a refund. It was possible after all.Folks, cashiers and sales people are human and they make mistakes. If they tell you they can’t do a refund they are either ignorant about how or they are being unethical in their business.I’m driving to Greenville in a couple of weeks. I’m happy to do business with them. They are well aware of the bad reputation of her store in Asheville. Its the only store so mostly we deal with it but almost everyone knows how rude those girls are and most dancers only go in there if they need something in an emergency or they need to be fitted. You are allowed to be rude and that affect your customer service reputation. You are not allowed to make a mistake that could have been avoided in the first place by just using your words and communicating with the customer and keep a customers 167$ Because you feel talking to them about a change is beneath you for some reason. They are fickle, sometimes they are nice and other times not. Shop there if you like to guess what kind of service they’re in the mood for.
