Cab Calloway School of the Arts has numerous features and highlights that make it a standout educational institution. Its most significant highlight is its arts-integrated curriculum, which provides students with intensive training in their chosen major alongside a strong academic program. This model is based on the belief that a holistic approach cultivates not only artistic mastery but also critical thinking and adaptability. The school’s productions and performances are a key highlight, often praised by the public for their professional quality. A reviewer of the school's production of "RENT" noted that the students were "very talented," and the production, featuring a "real band," was "amazing." These high-caliber performances give students a true pre-professional experience. The facilities also contribute to this excellence, with a renovated auditorium that includes a state-of-the-art sound system and lighting, allowing students to train and perform in a professional environment. The school’s history is a notable highlight, as it was founded by a group of parents who envisioned an arts-centered education, and it was later officially named to honor jazz legend Cab Calloway, who took a personal interest in the school. The school’s admissions process is another key feature, as it is based on a "Skills Assessment" or audition in a student's chosen arts area. This ensures that the student body is composed of individuals who are genuinely passionate about and talented in the arts. Furthermore, the school's partnership with The Charter School of Wilmington offers students dual-enrollment opportunities and access to additional facilities like studios and computer labs at the Delaware College of Art and Design (DCAD). These collaborations provide a rich and varied educational experience that is rare in a public school setting. The school is also recognized for its dedication to safety and community, with many positive reviews from parents praising the supportive environment, communication from staff, and the development of their children's independence and confidence. The core values of the school, or "The Callo'WAY," emphasize cooperativeness, academic diligence, and a yearning for excellence, which are actively promoted throughout the school community.

Cab Calloway School of the Arts Reviews
teachers and students
★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Cab put on RENT as their Spring Show. The students are very talented -- a shout out to the 8 leads on the March 22 show. The production, the music (a real band), and the students were amazing. thank you.
March 28 · CMBcertain teachers gossip and allow awful behavior from their students if they are fond said student. boundaries between students and teachers are constantly crossed, acting like high school besties with their students instead of authority figures. this involved group chats, teachers giving out personal social media accts, and discussing personal details of their students lives to other students.discipline in this school is for show only.there’s no real morals, only the dean deciding what looks best to the public. such as the god awful wikipedia wallpaper or all of the school funded trips the deans goes on…
March 03 · Skippy DinglechalkHas great classes and great staff, and is a safe space for queer and poc students- however, the disciplinary action is lackluster at best and some of the majors classes feel as if we’re not learning skills that will get us jobs in the future. My life would be very different had I not gone to this school, and I am very grateful for the experiences that I have had here, but there is room for more improvement & transparency from the administration. Cab Calloway is still one of the greatest schools in the state. (I ❤️ the science dept)
August 14 · Arbitrary SadnessIm a middle schooler here and i love it! we do so many fun trips and dances
May 19 · Madalyn PercivalThis school is an amazing opportunity for the kids interested in the arts. As it has for mine. However, it has become a consistent habit for those part of Cab to be put on the back burner in order to prioritize Charter. I’ve consistently seen from parents and students alike how they’re told they can’t do something because Charter needs it. Or they’re not able to use the facilities because Charter needs it. They can’t do fundraisers or activities freely. They prioritize Charter sports for equipment and funds. Students from Cab comment that kids in charter come down to the first floor that Cab occupies to ruin the bathrooms. It’s also known that Charter kids have a lot of bullying and have frequent fights on school grounds. Even in the busses, that are Red Clay District busses, and Charter is not part of the Red Clay District have had some students sit in awkward spaces because Charter students take up all the other seats. And the Cab band which is one of the best bands in Delaware, and dance teams, and other clubs are not given sufficient funds. There’s also been a common message from students that a recent aesthetic wallpaper could have been postponed because currently there are classes that are missing part of ceilings or flooding. Ultimately, the founder Calloway made this school for the arts, and that essence is being lost. I don’t know how the agreement with sharing a school with Charter was made but things have to be reviewed and balanced. All in all, I hope the school gets back on track, it’s not a bad school but priorities need to be rechecked.
