Glenwood Dance Studio Introduce
For adults in Chicago, finding a dance studio that caters specifically to their unique needs, schedules, and experience levels can be a challenge. Glenwood Dance Studio, nestled in the heart of the Glenwood Arts District in Rogers Park, is a cherished community hub that has been a much-needed component of the city's arts scene. This studio is a non-profit organization, founded by a group of adult dance students who wanted a place to learn and grow in their own neighborhood. What makes Glenwood Dance Studio truly special is its adults-only policy, which creates a low-stress, welcoming environment for dancers of all backgrounds. As one long-time student and reviewer notes, this focus means that students are "in a different headspace than their younger contemporaries," and the classes are "purposefully created to be accommodating to most's usual 9-5 weekday schedule." Whether you are looking to rediscover a childhood passion for dance, or are a brand-new beginner with a desire to try something new, you will find a supportive space to learn, move, and connect with others who share your love for dance. The studio is a vibrant community where you can find your "dance home" and grow as an artist and an individual.
Glenwood Dance Studio is located at 7017 N Glenwood Ave, Chicago, IL 60626, USA. Its prime location in Rogers Park makes it highly accessible for residents of the Far North Side and beyond. A major benefit of this location is its easy access via public transportation, particularly the CTA Red Line at Morse. For those who prefer to drive, it is important to note that street parking can be limited in the neighborhood, so planning ahead is advised. The studio is deeply committed to inclusivity and accessibility for all. It offers a wheelchair-accessible entrance, wheelchair-accessible seating, and a wheelchair-accessible restroom. Furthermore, the studio is a recognized LGBTQ+ friendly and transgender safespace, ensuring that everyone who comes to dance feels welcomed, respected, and safe. The small, intimate size of the studio (described as "fairly wide though only roughly 3-4 panels deep") is a feature that fosters a close-knit community feeling, where instructors can provide individual attention and make sure everyone has a safe and effective learning experience, even for "long-limbed dancers over 6’."
Glenwood Dance Studio offers an impressive and comprehensive list of classes and services, all tailored to the adult student. The drop-in class model is a major benefit, allowing students to attend classes on a flexible schedule that works for their lives. Here is a look at the services and classes you can find:

- Adults-Only Environment: The studio's focus on adults creates a comfortable, low-pressure setting. It's an ideal place for those who are "in a different headspace" than younger dancers and for "beginners and non-professionals" who want to learn without the stress of performative aspirations.
- Welcoming and Inclusive Community: As an LGBTQ+ friendly and transgender safespace, the studio is dedicated to being a place where everyone feels welcome, regardless of their background or identity. This is a crucial element that contributes to the positive, supportive atmosphere.
- Flexible Drop-In Classes: With the exception of a few specialized sessions, most classes are "drop-in," meaning students can attend whenever they want without being locked into a long-term commitment. This flexibility is a huge benefit for people with busy schedules.
- Professional and Approachable Instructors: The classes are "taught by capable and professional instructors" who are skilled at teaching students of all levels, from beginners to experienced dancers. The teachers' ability to adjust to a variety of talents ensures that everyone feels challenged but not overwhelmed.
- Community-Focused and Non-Profit: The studio is run by a volunteer board and is a non-profit organization, which reflects a genuine passion for dance and a dedication to serving the community rather than just generating profit. This unique structure contributes to the positive "vibe" and mission-driven approach of the studio.
- Comprehensive Offerings: From "Ballet Barres" to "Social Dance" and even "Sassy Heels," the wide variety of classes ensures that there is always something new and exciting to try, fulfilling a wide range of dance and fitness interests.

Glenwood Dance Studio Reviews

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I have found Glenwood Dance Studio to be a much needed component in not only the Far Northside Chicago area, but in the arts community in general. Started by a group of dance students with no extensive professional experience, GDS has managed to cultivate and grow pretty much exactly what a good dance studio should be: a welcoming space with a variety of classes taught by capable and professional instructors.GDS is an adults-only studio which can be nice for students who are in a different headspace than their younger contemporaries. This also means that class times are purposefully created to be accommodating to most’s usual 9-5 weekday schedule. There’s also plenty to do on the weekends, so you have the option to dance every day if you want to. The bulk of the students tend to be beginners and non-professionals so this can help provide those who have no professional/performative aspirations a less-stressful environment in which to learn. Shy and new dancers don’t worry - you’re not the only one. However, despite this, GDS is also very welcoming and able to accommodate dance professionals and has had students from various Chicago-land companies come through. The studio is quite small - fairly wide though only roughly 3-4 panels deep, but for the most part (of course depending on enrollment) the teachers do their best to keep it a safe and effective learning experience - even for long-limbed dancers over 6’!I’ve attended classes at GDS for about seven years now and though I of course take classes elsewhere every now and then, I am happy to call it my dance home.
March 21 · K DI started taking adult ballet classes here about two months ago and love it. The teachers and classes are great, I look forward to class every week.
March 20 · Edyta SitkoI have been taking classes at Glenwood Dance Studio since October 2015. It's a true gem: the teachers are excellent, the students are friendly and welcoming, and the supportive community environment matches no other place I've ever taken ballet. The studio believes that everyone can dance and that isn't just a statement on the website. There's also opportunities for students at all levels to perform, which is a unique chance for those who are interested (and there's no pressure in case you are not interested!). I've recommended GDS to many people over the years and felt it was finally time to leave a review expressing what a special place it is.
December 23 · Robin PokorskiWith Glenwood Dance Studio it's all about fun, energy and a can do attitude. It provides a warm, welcoming environment where one is invited to acquaint themselves with a vast array of dance styles or further polish their existing skills. The studio's dedicated group of instructors enthusiastically, patiently encourage and guide the beginner, the accomplished and all grades in-between. Watch one of their performances and you realize their motto is indeed true: anyone can dance! A cultural gem and venue well worth exploring!
August 01 · joe laroccaGlenwood is a fabulous dance studio, I’ve been coming here since 2018. The teachers are fantastic and very dedicated; I’ve always felt their attention to detail for every student in class. The community and atmosphere are extremely friendly and I look forward to seeing everyone every week.
