International Ballet Academy Introduce
Welcome to International Ballet Academy, a distinguished school and performing arts group in Greer, South Carolina, dedicated to the timeless art of classical ballet and dance. This academy is more than just a place for lessons; it is a center for performing arts education that strives to provide high-quality training in a variety of dance forms. Catering to all ages and skill levels, from young children taking their first steps in Pre-Ballet to adults looking to embrace a new hobby, International Ballet Academy offers a comprehensive range of programs designed to foster technical skill, musicality, discipline, and a lifelong love of dance.
The academy's mission is to provide an educational program that helps students achieve their greatest potential in ballet, while also teaching valuable life skills that will serve them in any career path. This is done through a curriculum that focuses on classical ballet, but also includes supplemental dance techniques like musical theatre jazz. While the school aims to be a positive and nurturing environment, some parent feedback highlights challenges that can arise in a professional training setting. One parent's review points to a perceived lack of communication regarding student progress, stating, "My biggest concern is the complete lack of communication between the school and parents. There’s no feedback throughout the year... Parents aren’t allowed to observe classes regularly... so we are left completely in the dark." The review goes on to detail a child's experience of not progressing to the next level without a clear explanation, leading to discouragement.
Another family, however, has a very different experience. A review highlights the positive impact of the school, particularly for a homeschooled child, noting that they "love going to class" and that their "skills improving each time she comes home." This parent also praises the "very friendly and wonderful" teachers and staff. This mixed feedback is common for institutions that focus on rigorous, classical training, where clear communication about a student's standing and progression is crucial for parental understanding and support. The academy's website does note that progression is based on ability and maturity, not just age, and that students often spend 2-3 years in each level. This perspective might explain the experiences of some families, and it underscores the importance of a clear and open dialogue between the school and its community.

International Ballet Academy Reviews
My daughter has been attending International Ballet on and off since she was very young. She’s now 9 years old and has been placed in Level 1 for the third year in a row. Unfortunately, my biggest concern is the complete lack of communication between the school and parents. There’s no feedback throughout the year — no regular updates, no discussions about progress, and no clear guidance on what needs improvement. Parents aren’t allowed to observe classes regularly (no TV, no camera), so we are left completely in the dark.Only after the annual demonstration, weeks later, do they send a card stating whether or not your child will move to the next level — with no explanation. Despite always being told by her teacher, Mrs. Laura, that my daughter was doing “good,” she was again told to stay in Level 1. If a child spends eight months in a class and doesn’t progress, shouldn’t the teacher be working closely with the parents to help support that child? That didn’t happen. My daughter started here when she was very young, and I’ve trusted the school all these years. But it’s clear now that the lack of proper instruction and feedback has affected her growth. I have seen other children with similar ability move up while mine was held back without clear reasoning. When I finally got a chance to speak with Mrs. Sara over the summer, she initially said my daughter was doing very well compared to others. But after the fourth session, we never had the promised conversation. Instead, she left the building quickly, and two days later I received an email saying my daughter still wasn’t ready to move up.Over the years, I’ve seen many families come and go — some with multiple children who leave after a year — and now I understand why.It breaks my heart because my daughter truly loves ballet. But instead of being encouraged and nurtured, she’s now hurt, discouraged, and questioning herself — not because of her ability, but because of how she’s been treated. I hope this review helps other parents make an informed decision. Don’t waste your child’s love of ballet in an environment where communication and support are so lacking.
August 22 · hanna nakhaiOur daughter loves going to class. This is her first year taking ballet. We homeschool our kids and it was great to see that they have sessions to accommodate families that homeschool. I see her skills improving each time she comes home. Teachers and staff are very friendly and wonderful.
