Mainstage Center For the Arts Introduce
Welcome to Mainstage Center For the Arts, a cornerstone of the performing arts community in Blackwood, New Jersey. For over three decades, this remarkable non-profit organization has been inspiring, educating, and entertaining audiences and participants throughout the South Jersey region. What began in 1989 as "Summer Stage," a seven-week performing arts camp for students, has blossomed into a year-round hub of creativity and personal growth. Mainstage Center For the Arts is more than just a theater; it is a vibrant, nurturing environment where young people and adults alike can use the performing arts as a powerful catalyst for individual expression and development. We are proud to be a place where passion for the arts is nurtured and where the skills learned on stage translate into valuable life lessons.
Our mission is to enrich the quality of life for our South Jersey community. We achieve this by offering a comprehensive range of programs that cater to diverse interests and skill levels. Whether your child is taking their first steps on stage or is an aspiring performer with professional ambitions, Mainstage provides the guidance and support they need to succeed. Our dedicated staff and friendly environment create a space where students feel safe to take risks, grow as individuals, and celebrate the performing arts. The feedback from our community speaks for itself, with many families highlighting the positive and transformative experiences their children have had with us.
As one satisfied parent shared, "All of my three children went through multiple years of the Summer Stage program... They always looked forward to and enjoyed their time at Mainstage. And the productions were... well... amazing, regardless of the fact that they put them together in only 6 weeks." This dedication to creating high-quality, memorable productions in a short time is a testament to the talent and commitment of the entire Mainstage family.
But the benefits go far beyond the stage. Our programs are intentionally designed to instill essential life skills. We focus on helping kids build self-confidence, learn the importance of teamwork, and encourage them to support one another. These are not just skills for the theater; they are valuable tools that will serve them well in any path they choose. The relationships formed here often become lifelong friendships, creating a supportive network for our students as they navigate their artistic and personal journeys. We believe that the arts are an essential component of a well-rounded education, and our programs provide a unique platform for this kind of holistic development.
Our commitment to excellence has not gone unnoticed. Mainstage is recognized by the community as "one of the best performing arts centers in South Jersey," an honor we have received multiple times. This recognition fuels our passion to continue providing exceptional arts experiences to our community, both on and off the stage. We are constantly striving to expand our reach and offer new and exciting opportunities for everyone to engage with the performing arts. Our legacy is built on a foundation of creativity, community, and a shared love for the arts.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1All of my three children went through multiple years of the Summer Stage program, about eight years in all. They always looked forward to and enjoyed their time at Mainstage. And the productions were ... well ... amazing, regardless of the fact that they put them together in only 6 weeks. Through the years, it impressed me how Mainstage always put kids first - it was important that the kids were having a positive experience. The programs focus on giving kids not just exposure to the arts; they help kids be self-confidant, teach teamwork, and encourage them to support one another - skills that are valuable anywhere, not just in theater. Highly recommended.
January 06 · Steve KurtzThis center offers amazing classes and has staff that is not only friendly but oriented to their students needs and success in the performance arts! I would recommend enrolling your child here for a great experience and to option friendships that will last a lifetime!
September 11 · Darrell WoodWe initially enjoyed it but their billing practices are horrendous. We haven’t been in months due to my husbands layoff from work and lack of income. He called and spoke to someone in September. We thought all was ok. A week before Christmas they take over $100 out of our account. This is very horrible and very shady business dealings. I called and left a message but no return call. Suppose I’ll have to file a formal complaint on the matter. Very disappointed as we had hoped to return when we got back on our feet financially but I won’t now after what they’ve done.
December 19 · Heather McKinneyHighly recommended company for kids of all ages that love to act, sing, and dance! The staff is top tier, and they care about their families well being.
September 27 · Colin SAside from putting up high quality shows, Mainstage does amazing work with children, teaching kids ages 4-18 the skills they need to thrive in the world of theatre. The world needs more companies like this.
