★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We just completed our first year at Melina's (enrolled my 4 y/o going on 5). We recently moved to a different part of town, but I am considering keeping her in this studio for at least another year to provide a feeling of stability for my daughter. She really enjoyed her experience at Melina's and -- as a former dancer in my childhood --I was relieved that my daughter had such a positive experience. It's a non-competitive atmosphere, which I think is great for little kids just starting out, and trying new things. Overall, I've found this to be a safe, positive and happy school for tiny dancers.Something that could improve: This studio prefers to rely heavily on an emailed newsletter and their (frequently updated) website. As a communications professional, I can appreciate that I can at least go there, because I don't think anyone is manning the phones regularly and there's hardly any time to discuss anything in-depth during drop off or pick up. The staff/faculty is young (mostly former recent students from what I could tell), so they may not be used to providing customer service or interacting with the adult parents of the kids they teach. More face-to-face (or even phone) conversations with the parents would be appreciated. Sometimes when I would drop my daughter off, there was an adult (older than the teacher) at the front desk, who I was sometimes pose a question to, and I think this adult was just a volunteer, who didn't seem to have the inside info.
July 21 · Jewel Edwards-AshmanI had my 4-year-old daughter enrolled at this school, and unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. From the beginning, I found it concerning that parents weren’t allowed to stay inside the building while the children were in class—we were asked to wait outside. That immediately felt like a red flag, but I chose to stay committed since my daughter seemed to enjoy her time there. The real issues started on recital day. We arrived at 3 PM and handed her shoes to the staff when they took her to the back. Sadly, they never put them on her for her performance. Her class was scheduled toward the very end of the show, which dragged on until after 7 PM. For a recital involving so many young children, this seemed excessive. There were also multiple breaks during the show—three in total—which made everything feel very disorganized. Having attended other dance recitals in the past with my older child, I’ve never experienced more than one intermission. To be completely honest, I felt the overall quality of the performances, even for the older dancers, was underwhelming. It seemed like the same handful of students were on stage repeatedly with just costume changes and similar choreography. It left me questioning the instruction they’re receiving. What upset me the most was knowing that toddlers and very young children were kept backstage for several hours, likely with no access to snacks, water, or bathroom breaks. That’s unacceptable—especially for a 4-year-old.To top it off, the award ceremony felt overly drawn out. One teacher in particular received an emotional farewell that included a poem from a romantic movie ("10 Things I Hate About You"), FROM A STUDENT.Finally, after all that, there was miscommunication at pickup. Parents were told to wait at a specific side of the building, but the children came out from a completely different area.Overall, this was a chaotic and poorly organized experience. I rarely leave reviews, but every time I think back on it, I feel frustrated. I truly hope the school takes this feedback seriously and makes the necessary improvements. As of now, I would not recommend it.
July 02 · Stephani NewmanWe have attended MDC since my 14 year old daughter was 4 years old. We briefly left when she decided to try new activities, but returned to the studio this past year. My daughter has THRIVED since returning. She has had the opportunity to explore different classes and has shown great improvement in her skill and technique. Melina’s dance teachers have imbued her with confidence. We highly recommend MDC!
June 30 · Jessica SchwabI have been dancing at Melina’s Dance Company for 11 years, and I have had the best experience ever here. I love the atmosphere of the studio, and the inclusivity of MDC. The teachers are amazing and give great corrections, and I have made so many new friends here. I love company here, and then events we go to. Performances are super fun and exciting!! Thank you Melina’s!!
July 29 · Zoe MattixWe’ve had a great experience at Melina’s. We started here because of its convenience to our home, doing summer camps for our oldest daughter and moving into regular sessions as she got old enough. She loves her classes, teachers and friends. We love the topical themed camps and classes, Taylor Swift camp right when my daughter began her obsession with Taylor and upcoming a Wicked musical theater. I’m always more than happy to get her involved with something I know she will be excited for. I would highly recommend Melina’s.
