★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I cannot recommend Metropolitan Ballet highly enough. When we first moved to the area, I was determined to find a school with a strong faculty that emphasized proper technique and serious training. My daughter began with Creative Movement and right from the start, I was impressed with how the teachers balanced discipline with fun. After a year, my son expressed interest in dance and was accepted into Metropolitan's outstanding Boy’s Scholarship program. As any parent of a boy in dance knows, it can be challenging for boys to stick with it, especially when they're often the only male student in class. Metropolitan stands out by offering a supportive environment with both coed classes and classes specifically designed for boys, taught by the talented Daniel Mayo.As our children have progressed through the levels, they’ve had numerous opportunities to perform in wonderful school shows and even in Philadelphia Ballet’s The Nutcracker. The opportunities for growth and performance at Metropolitan are unparalleled.A huge part of what makes Metropolitan Ballet exceptional is its fearless founder and director, Lisa Collins. We have experienced first hand her care for the students and her support of their success - sometimes that's with an arm around the shoulder and sometimes that's by pushing them to reach their full potential.Metropolitan Ballet works to build connections amongst families. The creation of a parent committee and the recent potluck gathering were wonderful ways to bring families together and create community.I recently was offered a job out of state and Metropolitan was a significant factor in choosing to remain in PA and commute, rather than moving closer to the job. Schools like this are rare, and I truly hope my children continue their dance journey here for years to come. If you’re looking for a school that offers top-tier training, a caring environment, and a sense of community, Metropolitan Ballet is the place to be.
November 08 · Denise Murphy-RohrMy review from years ago was naive and was requested from the owner for me to write. This isn’t an Academy at all, it is a Ballet Company for young kids - meaning not all dancers get the same training or opportunities as they would in an age appropriate Ballet Academy with trained and educated instructors. Ballet for children with Lisa Collins is cute until it isn’t. Parents who offer the most monetary support - their children get specialized attention. If your child is not white and basic - your child will get attention. I’ve met some really amazing kids there and I’ve seen those kids suffer more than it is worth. For my family, I wish I had spent more time at the dinner table with my children then sitting in the car at Met Ballet. I wish we went on vacations instead of ballet intensives. I wish less parents were afraid to approach Met (Lisa) and make the much needed healthy changes.
September 25 · Nicole VangenIt's hard not to fall in love with this school and its staff! My child has wonderful memories of her time with the Met. The staff is incredibly kind, encouraging, and nurturing. Ms. Collins is simply the best—flexible, caring, and always willing to meet you halfway. The Summer Intensive program is hands down epic. Ms. Collins invites celebrity guests to help develop new skills and boost the girls' interest in ballet! After a poor experience with a gymnastics club, I was pleasantly surprised by Ms. Collins' effort to keep all school members up to date. Show dates and requirements are posted in a timely manner, and goals for the season are discussed with both parents and kids. There are open days for parents to observe practice and get feedback from instructors. You don't have to worry about where to buy leotards, tights, and pointe shoes. The school has well-established connections with local businesses! I would give the Met 10 stars if it were an option!
June 04 · Anna KrivodedovaMy daughters have been coming to Met for lessons since they were 3 years old. All of the instructors are incredible; they can teach (and get results!) from children of any age, with just the right balance of care and discipline (and patience!) each child needs. My girls are confident and strong, and love going to their lessons and taking part in performances. They have had amazing opportunities, and are well-equipped to do any type of dance they may choose in the future because of their classical ballet training (although they can’t imagine dancing anywhere but Met!) I’m so glad we are lucky enough to have such a top-flight ballet school and company right in Jenkintown!
December 14 · Joanna KallanBeing a part of Metropolitan Ballet Academy has been such a blessing. I have studied at MET for seven years, since age 9. MET has incredible instructors, choreographers, and a family-like environment. This next year our family is moving, so I will be training at Orlando Ballet School in their Academy program. This wouldn’t be possible without the preparation and training I received at MET. MET has helped me with my technique and my performance quality; both are vital for a career in dance. The instructors at MET do their jobs well. Their classes are vigorous and they take time to teach the small details that make ballet so difficult. Along with Ballet, MET students get other opportunities to work in modern and contemporary pieces. I am so grateful that I was able to be a part of such a wonderful school, that has prepared me for new and wonderful opportunities.
