Music Matters Introduce
For parents and caregivers in Columbus, Ohio, looking for an enriching and joyful activity to share with their children, Music Matters is a name that comes highly recommended. This unique studio is the local provider of the internationally recognized Music Together program, which is designed to foster a love of music and build crucial developmental skills in children from birth through kindergarten. Music Matters goes beyond a typical class; it’s an immersive experience where music, movement, and family bonding take center stage. The program is built on the philosophy that all children are inherently musical and that this natural aptitude can be nurtured in a supportive, fun, and informal environment. The dedicated team, led by teachers like the wonderful Miss Leigh, provides a toolkit for parents to use in their everyday lives, offering songs and activities that help with everything from daily transitions to moments of boredom.
The core of Music Matters' mission is to create a space where families can slow down, connect, and make music together. It’s an environment free of pressure and performance expectations, allowing children to explore and learn at their own pace. As one parent beautifully put it, their classes provided "time for her and I to connect and for me to slow down." This emphasis on the parent-child relationship is what makes the Music Together program so special and effective. The learning extends far beyond the studio, as families are provided with resources, including CDs and songbooks, to continue the musical journey at home. This creates a "soundtrack" for daily life, as one review mentions, helping children to build skills that support their development in areas like math and reading, and giving them confidence that transcends the music itself.
Music Matters is conveniently located at 728 E Lincoln Ave, Columbus, OH 43229, USA. Its central location makes it a practical and accessible option for families across the Columbus area. The studio provides both on-site services for those who prefer an in-person experience and online classes for families who need the flexibility of learning from home. September 04 · Jessica DutkiewiczWe tried several activities and classes around Columbus when my youngest was little and Music Together with Leigh Mamlin was where landed home. We took classes from around 3 years old until she graduated out of rhythm kids! This music class gave us time together each week, time for her and I to connect and for me to slow down. The songs gave me tools to use in my every day parenting, especially through transitions or big feelings - hers and mine! Music Together also built skills for my daughter that transcended singing and playing: it gave her confidence in many other areas, it helped her in math and reading with recognizing patterns, and it gave her early exposure to other languages and cultures. If you’re going to pick any activity for babies on through kindergarten, I would hands down pick Music Together.
September 01 · Cassia ManginOh my gosh, I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Music Matters and how it has benefitted my boys (and myself). I joined the Music Matters family almost 5 years ago with my oldest son and have continued the journey with my youngest son, now 18 months old. I joined with my oldest when he was 7 weeks old. I appreciated having a place where I could not only get out of the house and be in a judgment-free space, but also connect with my son through music and dance.I genuinely believe that Music Together helped my sons become vocal faster than they might have without the classes. We've experienced Music Together in a variety of ways over the years - we did virtual classes during COVID, then outdoor in the summer, and we've had lots of classes in the studios. No matter what, Sarah, Leigh, and Alyssa have created an amazing experience for my boys. They're each so different in their teaching styles, but wonderful in their own ways. Our whole family goes to classes together, and I love seeing my older son's growth as he now sings along with the songs and tries to keep rhythm, and also watching my youngest's love of music blossom. He gets so excited so play instruments, and whenever a song starts playing, he starts dancing, and I credit Music Matters for sparking that love. For me personally, I have loved the connection with other parents and having that time to bond with my kids. It's also a great stress relief for me as well. There are days when I am tightly wound, and as soon as I step into the classroom, I relax, because for 45 minutes, my only job is to let go, sing, dance, and be in the moment. It's such a gift, and I encourage anyone with young kids to try it out.
August 30 · Kristen “Kristen” FontaniniWe have been loving our classes with Music Matters! We started when my son was 5 weeks old and now he is 12 months old and we are still enjoying new songs and games! I love that we can always find new ways to play and learn. We are looking forward to our next session!
August 29 · Laura WeaverWe love taking music classes with Music Matters. The classes are fun and engaging, and the instructors teach us great ways to interact with our babies at home using the music from class. I’ve learned a ton as a first time mom from these classes!
