Stage Door School of Dance Reviews
I debated for a while whether to write this review because I bear no ill will towards the owner of stagedoor. However, I hope this information can save someone from the disappointment that my family experienced. My 2 year old son started in the tumble/tap/balet class for 2 year olds. Our instructor, the owner, rarely had assistance so in the beginning she was frequently teaching a class of approximately 8 to 10 2 year olds with no help. She was clearly not prepared to teach this age group. The methodology that she used was old and difficult for the kids to follow. She would often ask them to do things (like log rolls) without showing them how to do it because she seems to be physically unable to perform most tumbling feats. If she had hired an assistant or shown a video this may have been OK but in a room full of 2 year olds they had no idea what to do with no example. The kids ended up spending most of their time sitting down or running around confused and not knowing what to do.The class size dwindled and we ended up being the last student in the class. We left after she scheduled a private lesson at the same time as my son's class and began to ignore my son in favor of teaching the other student. We did not even attend for the entire last month that we paid for because it was such a frustrating experience. Some stand out low points were that the children were asked to tumble on musty equipment that was wet from a leak in the roof, and the children were also once given food without parent permission. I feel like I gave this facility a fair shot. I gave feedback and spoke honestly with the owner who showed minor improvement but largely did not provide an adequate class or even a clean place for the children to play.I hope that this business can recover in future but as it stands now it does not seem to be a suitable place for young children. I wish that things had gone differently as we had extremely high hopes. Photo edited to protect the identity of the students who were originally pictured.
January 10 · Hana Hornburg ChandlerMy family has always gone to both Stage Door School of Dance and SwimTown Midlothian (both owned and run by the same person). Miss Laurie genuinely cares about all of her students and she makes sure that she gives everyone her individual attention and criticism (if needed). That is a quality that most businesses lack. The business is very family-oriented and the students in her classes end up being like family. My family has always loved going to both the dance lessons and swim lessons. This place is AMAZING and my family and I love it!
