When considering a dance studio in the Kissimmee and greater Central Florida area, Susan's Dance Works offers a compelling proposition rooted in its long-standing history and commitment to a positive dance experience. The studio’s dedication to a "family-oriented and nurturing environment" is a core tenet that has clearly resonated with many, including a student who has been with the studio since she was five years old and praises the friendships and wonderful teachers she has encountered. The comprehensive list of classes, from acrobatics to ballet and jazz, means that students have a wide array of options to explore their interests, whether they are just beginning or have years of experience.
While a different perspective mentioned challenges with parent viewing and a desire for a "friendlier, more inviting environment," it is important to consider the context of these remarks. The studio's own description and the positive feedback from other students and parents suggest a place that is, for many, a perfect fit. The existence of a dedicated, award-winning competition company also highlights the studio's ability to cater to serious dancers who are ready to commit to a high level of training and performance. This dual approach—offering both recreational classes for fun and advanced programs for serious students—is a key strength.
Ultimately, Susan's Dance Works invites prospective families to visit the studio and decide for themselves if it's the right fit, acknowledging that no single studio is for everyone. The studio's commitment to safety, its use of specialized floating dance floors, and its variety of classes make it a strong contender for anyone looking for dance instruction. The testimonials from happy, long-term students and the studio’s clear philosophy of providing a safe, fun, and encouraging atmosphere for dancers of all ages and levels solidifies its position as a valuable institution in the Florida dance community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’ve been going to Susan’s since I was 5, and it is amazing. I have made lots of new friends and met wonderful teachers. I have taken ballet, jazz, lyrical, tap, and hippy hop classes. But they many other classes. -Luna A.
July 29 · Melissa CThis was not the right fit for us, unfortunately. The parent viewing was difficult. One of my 5YO’s classes was only viewable by standing outside and looking through a window. (It’s just too hot in Fl). We also didn’t feel it was the friendliest, most inviting environment. My daughter actually she told me she wonders why her teacher doesn’t smile. (Although to be fair her other (ballet) teacher seemed great.) We ended up finding a different studio with a more kid-friendly feel.
August 21 · Dani MoritzMy daughter transitioned to this studio when it was purchased from James Dance. She chose not to do company upon transitioning and felt like she was set aside and isolated. Attention was paid to those in company. Many times company dances would be run during class time leaving my daughter to sit and watch for a class I was paying for. My daughter left after the next year with low self esteem and anxiety. There is more to dance than competitions. I know many who have left this studio due to lack of growth, injuries and bullying.
April 28 · cws1967I attended this studio for about 6 years after training at James Dance Center with Susan for around 7 years prior. The classes are remedial, and the culture is extremely negative. I was called fat and told I needed to go on a diet multiple times by Susan when I was 10-13 years old. This behavior lead to extremely negative body image among many dancers, which manifested in eating disorders. The studio facilitates constant competition with peers, leading to bullying, isolation, and a lack of team support. Many people that I used to dance with, along with myself have left the studio with damaged self esteem, low confidence, body dysmorphia, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Having spent 13 years in this environment, I would never wish this treatment on any child, and hope I can prevent it with this review.
August 11 · kbOur daughter had some great times here and began to dance here when she was little but after several years there it was obvious there was no encouragement to grow if you are not one of the directors favorites. We decided to move on to a studio that allows the kids to grow and experience more than the repeated routines they kept going over at this studio. Even being part of the competition team it was clear that if you did not take every class offered and participate in every workshop and convention you would continuously be set aside. It was also frowned upon to sign up for any workshops or conventions (even during the summer) on your own because they did not like the kids to train or learn at unapproved programs.
