Triveni School of Dance Introduce
For over five decades, the Triveni School of Dance in Brookline, Massachusetts, has been a distinguished institution dedicated to the education and performance of Indian classical dance. As a non-profit organization founded by acclaimed dancer Neena Gulati in 1971, Triveni has a rich history of promoting cultural diversity and social awareness through the arts. It is a long-standing fixture in the greater Boston area, known for training dancers in three distinct forms of Indian classical dance: Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Odissi. The school's mission goes beyond mere instruction; it is about preserving and sharing a deep cultural heritage, making it a valuable asset to the Massachusetts community.
The school's legacy is tied to the passion and vision of its founder, Neena Gulati. A master of the Pandanallur style of Bharatanatyam, Neena has received critical acclaim for her performances and has been recognized as a "pioneer in bringing classical Indian dance in all its nuance to New England." Her dedication to the art form and her teaching style, which follows the traditional guru-shishya (teacher-student) tradition, have been instrumental in the school's success and longevity. For those seeking to connect with their Indian roots or to explore a new and spiritually rich art form, Triveni offers a unique and authentic learning environment.
Triveni's commitment to the community is also evident in its annual performances. The Triveni Ensemble gives numerous performances each year, including benefit shows for other charities. These events are not only a platform for the students to showcase their talent but also a way for the school to give back to the community and raise awareness for important causes. The school has consistently been praised for its beautiful choreography and the emotional depth of its performances, which often tell stories from Hindu mythology and other ancient traditions. While one reviewer noted a lack of professional quality in a specific performance, it is important to remember that these are often student ensembles and the purpose is not only technical mastery but also artistic expression and community engagement. Another reviewer, who has been with the school for 15 years, praised the founder and the school's ability to help students connect with their culture and heritage, describing it as an honor to witness such mastery and a credit to the institution's enduring tradition.

Triveni School of Dance Reviews
bharatnatyam
★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This is the worst dance school. Most of the teachers are who just finished their arangetram and with no further experience in dance. They themselves are unaware of the basic understanding of dance form or maybe not to the level where they can share the knowledge with students. There is no course structure at triveni for any of the dance forms taught. No one informs about the level of dance basic/intermediate/advance you are/will be learning. You will start learning dance with a random dance piece (they say it basic dance piece but then you don’t know where you are in learning process ) and you just keep going. Teachers do not care about the growth of students. Teachers are mostly having fun without any interest in teaching. Some teachers keep referring to the practice videos on website during the class, which is very funny. Neenaji the founder of Triveni is passionate about the dance and teaching, however currently most classes are conducted by unprofessional unqualified teachers who are yet to learn and excel in the art form. If any one wants to seriously and sincerely learn Bharathanatyam/kuchipudi/odissi definitely there are so many other best options and do not waste your time at Triveni.Apart from these teachers also do something called ensemble show every year for charity of course for a good cause but this year performance was the worst, most of them need to really practice the dance well, some of them do not have rhythm and most of them had no one expression while performing. It is like bunch of robots performing on the stage. Definitely i don’t recommend triveni to anyone.

This school has honored the tradition of Indian dance instruction for 50 years. People of all ages and backgrounds can learn here and the enthusiasm and pure joy of the children is inspiring. Neena Gulati deserves a great debt of gratitude from all of us.
