Why I Decided to Start a 90-Day Practice Challenge
It all started with a simple realization — I needed a change in my routine. I had always struggled with consistency in my personal development, especially when it came to practicing skills I was passionate about, like dancing. I would start strong, but after a week or two, life would get in the way, and I'd fall off track.
After watching a few inspiring videos about daily practice routines and the benefits of consistency, I decided to challenge myself to practice every single day for 90 days. The goal wasn’t perfection but rather the commitment to improving through daily effort. I knew that by making a daily practice routine, I’d not only improve my skills but also build a strong habit of discipline.

The Struggles of Staying Motivated Every Day
While the initial excitement of the challenge was motivating, the reality of daily practice soon set in. Some days, I was exhausted from work, and other times, I felt overwhelmed by the amount of practice I had to do. There were moments when I questioned whether I could keep going, and the idea of skipping a day seemed so tempting.
On some days, I felt like I wasn’t making any progress, and the repetitive nature of practice made me wonder if I was doing the right thing. These struggles were real, and at times, they made me want to quit. However, I reminded myself that consistency, not perfection, was key. I knew that every small step counted toward achieving my goal, and that kept me going.

How I Overcame Those Struggles
Overcoming the temptation to quit was a huge part of my journey. Here are a few ways I stayed motivated to continue my practice every day:
- Embracing Imperfection: I accepted that not every practice session would be perfect. Some days, I didn’t hit the moves exactly right, but I reminded myself that practice wasn’t about being perfect — it was about making progress.
- Making it a Habit: I committed to a fixed time each day for practice. Whether it was early morning or late at night, setting a specific time helped me build the habit.
- Staying Accountable: I shared my goal with friends and family. Having others know about my commitment made me feel accountable and motivated to keep going.
- Switching Things Up: On days when I was feeling bored or unmotivated, I would change my practice routine or focus on a different aspect of my skill. This helped me stay engaged and avoid burnout.
The Importance of Setting Small Goals
Instead of focusing on the daunting idea of practicing every day for 90 days, I broke my challenge down into smaller, more achievable goals. For example, I set daily goals for specific aspects of my skill — from mastering a particular move to improving my endurance. By focusing on small goals, I felt a sense of accomplishment every day, which motivated me to keep going.
These small victories added up, and by the end of the 90 days, I had accomplished more than I thought possible. Setting small, measurable goals allowed me to stay focused and prevented me from feeling overwhelmed by the bigger picture.
Tracking Progress and Celebrating Small Victories
Throughout the 90 days, I made sure to track my progress. I kept a journal to document each day’s practice, noting what went well and what needed improvement. This helped me see how far I had come, even on the days when it felt like nothing was changing.
Additionally, I celebrated small victories. Whether it was nailing a difficult move or simply sticking to my practice schedule for a week, celebrating these moments kept me motivated and excited about the process. It wasn’t just about the end goal — it was about recognizing the hard work along the way.
What I Learned from My 90-Day Journey
Looking back on my 90-day practice challenge, I’ve learned several valuable lessons. First and foremost, consistency truly is the key to success. By committing to practice every day, even when I didn’t feel like it, I saw significant improvement in my skills.
I also learned the importance of self-compassion. There were days when I struggled, and that’s okay. What mattered was showing up and doing my best. It’s not about perfection; it’s about progress and the willingness to keep going.
Finally, I learned that setting small, achievable goals makes big challenges seem less intimidating. Each step forward is an accomplishment, and it’s important to celebrate those moments, no matter how small they may seem.
