Arts Academy of New Hampshire Introduce
For New Hampshire families seeking a unique, supportive, and rigorous high school experience that champions creative development, the Arts Academy of New Hampshire (AANH) stands as a premier public charter school option. Located in Salem, AANH is dedicated to nurturing creative thinkers, active citizens, and independent learners through a curriculum that seamlessly integrates the arts with challenging college preparatory academics. This approach is specifically designed for students in grades 9 through 12 who thrive in a smaller, more individualized educational setting.
The core philosophy of AANH revolves around the belief that the arts are not simply extracurricular activities, but essential components of a well-rounded and intellectually stimulating education. Every student at the Academy attends art classes daily and is required to intensely study at least two of the four major creative disciplines: Dance, Music, Theater, and Visual Arts. This daily focus on creative expression empowers students to explore real-world problems and develop critical thinking skills through an artistic lens, preparing them for success in both higher education and any chosen professional field.
Local parents often highlight the school's intimate, family-like environment as a significant factor in their children's success. With a total enrollment of approximately 121 students across all four high school grades and a remarkably favorable student-teacher ratio of around 11:1, students benefit from a highly personalized educational experience. This supportive atmosphere allows students who may have struggled in larger, more traditional public high schools—a common experience in New Hampshire—to flourish, develop confidence, and pursue their passions.
The commitment of the Arts Academy of New Hampshire to the whole student is further demonstrated by its focus on student support, including vital policies and education related to Wellness and Suicide Prevention, ensuring a safe and nurturing community where students feel welcomed, valued, and at home. This makes the Salem-based Academy a compelling choice for families seeking both artistic excellence and a genuinely supportive learning environment for their high schooler.
The Arts Academy of New Hampshire is conveniently located in Salem, New Hampshire, placing it within easy reach of families throughout Rockingham County and Southern New Hampshire. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- This school is wonderful! The small environment and individual attention from teachers make it tight knit community. We have felt so welcomed and at home. The academics are wonderful, and the focus on the arts is exactly what my daughter loves. She is thriving here. I am so happy we decided to come here. We originally came from a larger, more prestigious school, which was a horrible experience. I couldn't recommend them more! August 22 · Kristin Barsorian
- The small and supportive atmosphere is what our daughter needed! Approximately 121 students grades 9–12, with class sizes around 30 per grade and a favorable 11:1 student–teacher ratio! Strong in arts integration, focusing daily on creative disciplines alongside academics! August 22 · Beth Knight
- My child started high school at Pinkerton in Derry, NH and was a C, D student hating life. We transferred to Arts Academy of New Hampshire half way through 10th grade and by the end of 10th grade my child was a straight A student moving into honors classes. I have watched my child's self confidence go from nothing to amazing! This was the best move for my child. The staff are so professional, helpful and kind. The other students that I have met have been the most well mannered kind hearted individuals. It warms my heart to see the students always lifting each other up anyway they can. If your child is struggling in another school this school might be the answer...it certainly was for us! August 22 · Trina Reed
- Absolutely love this school! My son was bullied through middle school and the public school refused to help with the bullying or with his special needs (ADHD and ASD). He barely passed 8th grade and probably shouldn’t have. Most days were a battle to even get him to go to school. At Arts Academy he is thriving. He is accepted for who he is, has the support he needs to learn effectively, gets a full academic education as well as getting more in depth learning and experience with the visual arts and music that he loves. The staff and students are amazing and I can’t imagine him anywhere else! August 31 · Sherri
- Wonderful public charter high school located in Salem, NH. Strong academics and incredibly diverse art programs. We're lucky to have something like this available for creative and passionate students as an alternative path to traditional public high school. August 19 · Josh Breault
