John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School Introduce
John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School, commonly referred to as Davidson or DFA, is a celebrated public educational institution located in Augusta, Georgia, serving students in grades 6 through 12. As a magnet school, it offers a distinctive educational model that seamlessly integrates a demanding college-preparatory academic curriculum with intensive instruction in the fine arts. For Georgia families prioritizing both academic rigor and artistic development, Davidson stands out as a premier secondary school option. Its commitment to excellence in both spheres has consistently earned it high rankings not only within the state of Georgia but also on a national level.
The school operates with a clear mission: "Excellence in education achieved through a passion for the fine arts." This philosophy ensures that students receive a well-rounded education, recognizing that engagement in the arts—be it music, theatre, dance, or visual arts—enhances academic performance and fosters creativity, discipline, and emotional intelligence. The student body, typically around 700 to 730 students, benefits from a focused, smaller-school atmosphere and a highly favorable student-to-teacher ratio, often cited as 10:1. This intimate setting is designed to encourage individual growth, strong community bonds, and a culture where self-discipline and community responsibility are highly valued, aligning with the core values sought by Georgia parents for their children's secondary education.
Davidson is recognized as both a High school and a Middle school, providing a continuous, six-year trajectory of specialized instruction. Admission is highly competitive and based on both academic records and an audition process designed to assess a student’s aptitude and interest in the fine arts. This selective process is a key factor in maintaining the school's exceptional standards for academic achievement and artistic quality, leading to impressive standardized test scores (e.g., average SAT of 1220 and ACT of 27) and high college readiness rates among its graduates. The school’s performance on state assessments, with high proficiency rates in both reading and math, reinforces its standing as a top-tier institution in the state's public education system.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My only problem was that I never got to play the guy in Newsies where his barbershop haircut costed a quarter. Other than that, good school.
September 02 · P GriffinI have been a student here for 3 years and I have really regret making the choice of going to this school. This is my last year, and I am happy about it. I have gotten really bad anxiety and depression from the three I have been here. I have to leave this school because of my grades, and it is not my fault. This school provides no help when it comes to kids who learn in different ways that they have to learn. They teach their lesions too fast for their kids to learn them and understand them, and they give too many tests in one week! I have really been suffering since I have started this school. Please do not put your kids in this school! It will make their lives so much harder!
May 01 · lailaQuite simply the very best school you could EVER wish your child could be lucky enough to get to. It’s tough it’s hard … but oh my gosh it’s amazing. The teachers are not just teachers. They are inspiring and I thank them for the most wonderful six years you gave us. Thank you. I can not imagine a better experience. You helped to make my son the man he is.I also wanted to add that my son came from five years at Augusta prep but struggled for his first year at Davidson. This school is tough. But it’s so worth it. It breaks my heart that he’s graduating this year.
February 24 · Tara Pegg-FurbyDefinitely has some of the most skilled, efficient, talented, professional, upmost qualified, and brilliant Fine Arts Educational staff to teach children. However, Academic Educational staff not so much. Academics aside this school is an excellent school for children leaning towards the fine arts.
August 15 · Daisy MillsMy expectations of this school were very high until my daughter went to school here. I knew it would be challenging; however, when she needed support and I needed support there was none. I asked for a conference with the Assistant Principal, the male one, and never even got a reply back from him. After many failed attempts to try to get my daughter back on track, I was informed that "Davidson isn't for everyone". My daughter is just as good as any other student there; however, there lack of support and fake facade they put on at this school put a very bitter taste in my mouth. Unless you are good being thrown to the wolves with no help and no assistance when needed. IF you want a magnet school I HIGHLY recommend RCTCM or AR Johnson.
