Marjorie Kovich School of Ballet Introduce
For over five decades, the Marjorie Kovich School of Ballet has been a cornerstone of classical dance education for families in Norman and the wider Oklahoma City metropolitan area. Established in 1972, the school’s mission has remained unwavering: to offer high-quality ballet instruction within a disciplined yet encouraging environment. It operates not just as a school, but as a dedicated learning center where students of all ages can share their passion for ballet and dance, nurturing skills that extend far beyond the studio. This dual focus on technical excellence and personal growth is what sets the school apart in the Oklahoma dance community.
The teaching methodology employed at the school is rooted in the outstanding elements of the Russian, Italian, and French schools of ballet. This strong classical foundation is complemented by the crisp athleticism and clarity of line characteristic of the American ballet style introduced in the mid-20th Century. This careful, unhurried approach to training ensures that every student builds a sound foundation, progressing through a structured syllabus at a pace that guarantees mastery of each level. Concepts such as excellence, poise, self-worth, accomplishment, and respect are integral to the classroom experience, instilled by experienced teachers who share a genuine love for dance.
The school caters to a wide spectrum of students, from young children taking their first creative steps to advanced students preparing for collegiate or professional careers, as well as adults seeking fitness, enjoyment, and camaraderie. The institution also serves as the official school for the Norman Ballet Company, providing students with valuable, high-quality performance opportunities in productions like the cherished “Oklahoma Nutcracker” and original works.

Marjorie Kovich School of Ballet Reviews
My daughter joined Marjorie’s school of ballet when she was four years old. The reason why I started her here is because as a child she was very shy but I could tell she wanted to dance and this seemed like the perfect studio size to start at. During the first month of my daughter attending, she would just stand there and not participate! I cried thinking she would always be like this in everything (basically not letting herself join the fun because she was so shy). Marjorie assured me everything was fine and it’s normal, she explained to me that my daughter was just observing and that soon she would join when she was ready. And she did! After a month she slowly joined the other children and began showing enjoyment! Fast forward to now, my daughter is 14 years old, still shy but you would never know when she’s dancing! She is on her third year of pointe and absolutely loves her ballet studio and teacher! She has built so much convince and discipline that portrays in everything she does… from dance to school to how she takes care of her self. I can’t thank Marjorie enough for helping me create this beautiful person that I’m so proud of!
February 27 · Brenda GlennMy daughter was fortunate enough to take ballet with Marjorie for a year and a half. I can't say enough good things about her experience. My daughter was a bit old to be just starting out, and Marjorie did an amazing job of making sure she was placed where she needed to be, and making sure she learned all the she needed to learn. Our time with her was wonderful. She fosters discipline and hard work in a very structured environment that values friendship and mentorship between students of all ages and experience levels. We are now living in Texas, and my daughter has mentioned more times than I can count how she wishes she could still go to Miss Marjorie for ballet. It was truly a professional and world class experience.
July 15 · Amy MackieMs. Marjorie is an excellent steward of the art. She teaches technique and discipline in a compassionate and joyful atmosphere. She obviously loves her work with young dancers. She engages them on different levels and teaches life skills at the same time she helps them to dance beautifully. She takes the time to get to know each dancer as a person. My little girls admire, respect, and love Ms. Marjorie. I would recommend her dance studio to any aspiring ballet dancer.A side note: She does not tolerate poor behavior. If your children are accustomed to discipline and are expected to respect their elders they will thoroughly enjoy the experience.
June 07 · Mindi GutierrezSeveral years ago my daughter was in this ballet classes. Ms. Marjorie did not tell us when the final recital was until a few weeks before. The recital happened to be on memorial weekend. We already had a travel plans. When I told Ms. Marjorie this, she told me if my daughter didn’t attend the recital and cancel our plans, we would no longer be able to attend classes the next year. We didn’t attend. She left my husband an angry voicemail. I’m sure we weren’t the only family who had this issue with the recital being a holiday weekend.I’m sharing this because if you are a busy family with a packed schedule, you will need to get dates and commitment from the school. Ms. Marjorie was really unprofessional. I’d caution others.
November 26 · Jessica Miller-MerrellI’ve been dancing here for 12 years and i’ve learned so much. I made many friends including Naomi. 100% Recommend going here.
