Colorado Dance Arts (formerly Lakewood Dance Academy) Introduce
For families and individuals in the Colorado region seeking a place to grow their passion for dance, Colorado Dance Arts—formerly known as Lakewood Dance Academy—is a local gem. This isn't just a place to learn steps; it's a community where art, discipline, and a sense of belonging come together. Under the guidance of its women-owned leadership, particularly the owner, Julie, the studio has cultivated a reputation for being a supportive and positive environment for dancers of all ages.
The studio's long-standing presence in the community is a testament to its quality and commitment. As one long-time customer review highlights, their daughter has been attending since she was 18 months old and is now a thriving nine-year-old dancer. This kind of longevity and loyalty is built on the strong relationships forged between the staff and students. The reviewer praises Julie as "so kind and wonderful, and makes everyone feel important and loved," adding that "the other teachers are all just as amazing... they are such positive role models." This reinforces the idea that Colorado Dance Arts is a place where students don't just learn to dance—they learn to thrive. The family-like atmosphere is a recurring theme, with the reviewer stating, "it truly feels like we are part of one big happy family."
Colorado Dance Arts offers a comprehensive and well-rounded dance education, with a particular strength in classical ballet. They provide a full ballet program, from pre-ballet for creative dancers to advanced technique classes, culminating in a cherished annual "Nutcracker Performance." This tradition is a highlight for many families and provides students with valuable performance experience. Beyond ballet, the studio's offerings are diverse, including modern, tap, and acro classes. This variety ensures that dancers can explore different styles and find their own unique path within the world of dance. They also offer flexible options such as drop-in classes and private lessons, accommodating a wide range of schedules and needs.
While the studio is praised for its quality and community, it is important to acknowledge that some individuals have reported challenges with communication and follow-up regarding inquiries, particularly for non-standard classes. One review detailed a frustrating experience with private lesson inquiries, noting a lack of response and follow-through. The studio's response to the review suggests a commitment to addressing such issues, but it is a point for potential customers to be aware of. Despite these potential hiccups, the overwhelming sentiment from long-term, established customers remains one of deep satisfaction and loyalty.
The studio's dedication to inclusivity is also a major highlight. It is identified as both an LGBTQ+ friendly and transgender safe space, demonstrating a commitment to welcoming all members of the community. Additionally, the availability of active military discounts is a thoughtful gesture to support local military families, further cementing the studio's role as a community-oriented institution.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This studio is so amazing. My daughter has been attending Lakewood Dance Academy since she was 18 months old (she is now 9). The owner (Julie) is so kind and wonderful, and makes everyone feel important and loved. She truly cares about each and every single one of the dancers there. And, the other teachers are all just as amazing- my daughter has been lucky to have been taught by all of them and they are such positive role models. They all treat everyone with kindness- it truly feels like we are part of one big happy family. My daughter has thrived here and dance is her #1 passion- she is so excited to now be a member of the student company and the dance studio is her favorite place to be. I can't recommend this studio and Julie enough!
July 27 · Kara FielderUpdate to recent response:This was the studio that I contacted and spoke with. I was told that a teacher rents space there for the specific style of dance that I was looking for, which was Belly Dancing. I know it’s not offered directly with the studio. But I did take classes there at this location with a teacher who rented space there a year ago.My issue was being asked for my information more than once and being told I would be followed up with more than once and that never happened until I posted a negative review. ( This email is used only for reviews that might have to be negative as well. To protect my privacy.)Awful communication and followup at this location for inquiries about private lessons. I reached out a total of three times to try to obtain information about setting up private lessons for a style of dancing that a teacher who rents space there offers and was first told to send an email and someone would get back to me. I sent the email and followed up a couple of days later via phone after not hearing a response and was told that they didn’t even see my email in their system but was asked to leave my name, email and number instead and someone would definitely get back to me then.I waited an additional couple of days and heard nothing so followed up with a final call and was basically told to try to leave my information again so someone could contact me from there. I let them know that I had already done this and still heard nothing and just said is there anyone there still offering the type of dancing style I’m looking for and the person said that they weren’t sure. Like um ok. 🤔So you’re not sure after I’ve reached out three times now directly via email and was told to leave my name and number and after exerting no further effort to be sure to help confirm this for someone actively seeking to provide paid services.Incredibly frustrating experience but I will definitely be looking elsewhere from here to find an alternative private dance class going forward.
November 10 · EllaThis dance studio has been a positive and significant part of our lives for many years. Both of my daughters have danced at LDA. The combination of expert instruction and supportive community is amazing and rare!! Julie Anderson has intentionally created this amazing dance community and we love her studio (and her).
July 14 · Jennifer StenmanWe have had only the best possible experience here. Julie truly cares about each child. She knows how to stretch them without pushing too hard, and takes such joy in their excitement. She lets them be kids, while guiding them in teaching their bodies some new and amazing things. I can't recommend this studio enough, and my girls adore her, which is obviously a giant plus.
June 27 · Alzbeta VolkSuch a warm and affirming environment where the emphasis is on nurturing the spirit through movement--not on crazy competitiveness. I never thought my kid was the "team-sport" type, but here she dances with the ensemble and has found a community like no other. Ms. Julie is a force of nature--I'm not sure how she does it all, but she still finds time to connect with dancers and their families.
