Third Street Music School Introduce
For New York City families seeking an exceptional foundation for their young children, the Third Street Music School, an established institution with a deep-rooted history, offers far more than a typical daycare or academic program. Founded in 1894, Third Street is renowned as the longest-running community music school in the United States. Its mission extends beyond music and dance to encompass a comprehensive, arts-infused Preschool program, providing a unique and nurturing environment right here in the heart of Manhattan.
The Third Street Preschool, which opened in 1976, blends developmentally appropriate, experiential play-based learning with a rich curriculum focusing on music and artistry. This unique integration ensures that children from one to five years of age develop cognitive, social, and emotional skills while being immersed in a vibrant creative community. This approach is distinctively New York, drawing on the city’s cultural richness to inspire young learners. The philosophy centers on creating an environment where each child develops a greater sense of self, a respect for others, and a lifelong passion for both music and learning.
As a non-profit organization, the school is deeply committed to serving the New York community and providing high-quality arts education regardless of a student's background or economic circumstance. The arts-infused curriculum is taught by exceptional, highly-qualified faculty, many of whom hold Master’s degrees in Early Childhood Education. The result is a joyful and nurturing school where children are encouraged to grow as individuals and active members of their classroom community, all within a setting celebrated for its artistry and dedicated teaching staff. This seamless integration of a licensed preschool within a world-class music and dance school offers an unparalleled early education experience for local New Yorkers.

September 15 · Ilanit SchreiberA joyful and nurturing school full of music-making, dance and artistry!
September 15 · yvonne lauWe had a horrible experience with this school. My son used to take piano lessons with Zane Myers. During those times, he practiced almost everyday, but we didn't see any growth. So we simply thought he was not talented and then quit. Recently, my son mentioned to me that his teacher didn't teach during the lessons but just played with his computer/cell phone, and even watch inappropriate video behind my son!!! I was so shocked and couldn't believe it. As a parent, we trusted this school and didn't sit in. It's very clear that the school knew everything about teacher's behavior but nobody mentioned to us, because they only cared about making profit. I also felt so heartbroken that my son could potentially develop his musical interest, but with this unprofessional and unethical teacher, he didn't want to even try other music school/lesson. PLEASE stay away! I am also about to file a complaint to DOE.
January 05 · Peugur LarmourEons ago I was a an usher at this school as per La Salle Academy's mandatory free wage slave labor program. Never again. Several years alter after having picked up the guitar, studying privately with a Berklee alumni and then classical guitar with a Mannes graduate and finally with Jazz virtuoso George Bien in college in a Jazz program, I must stress the importance of finding and working with solo independent musicians. They are absolutely crucial for your musical development and influence. I abhor these kinds of school setting where they lock you into profit driven contracts with all sorts of fees. Support local independent musicians who often live hand to mouth doing their thing as starving artists. As a teacher myself for many years, I can not tell you how often time or the clock was not of the essence and bonding with a student was more memorable than how many lessons they signed up for or the actual rate. Not to mention I did not have to split the cost with a middle man administrator. Go right to the source people.
August 22 · GP KieferI owe so much to this institution. Have studied with Marcia Lewis for 18 years now and she is the GREATEST piano teacher hands down!!! They are lucky to have her
